Many changes and great improve ments have been made in the order and arrangement of our library during- Xmas holidays. These changes have added much to the attractive ness of the library and to the conve nience and comfort of the students. It may be of interest to our stndents to know the number of books taken from the library during the four months of last term. The total number taken up to date Dec. 29, was 3,197. Of these 1,509 related to fiction; 341 to literature and lan guage; 260 to history; 196 to poetry and the drama; 195 periodicals; 145 relating to biography and memoirs; 78 to religion and theology; and 74 to education. The others are on various subjects. The above list, howeyer, shows the inclination of the minds of our students. Among the additions to our read ing room is The Daily Caucasian, a reform paper, established at Ra leigh and publishing its first issue on Monday of this week. In another column is published an account of a meeting of represen tatives of Southern colleges held at Atlanta recently for the purpose of forming an inter-collegiate athletic association. At this meeting, a constitution was drawn up, which is to be submitted to the athletic assciations of the various colleges. The University Association will act on it at its meeting on next Satur day afternoon and decide whether or not we shall join the proposed movement. This is a very import ant matter and should be discussed before a full meeting of the Asso ciation. Zoology teaches us that the hairs of the head are hollow, and contain an oil that gives them life. In clipping the hair with scissors, this hollow is left open, and the hair loses its life-giving properties. I have a Machine named the Singeing Machine, which removes the hair and at the same time closes up the hollow causing the hair to retain its life-giving properties, and therefore stopping the hair from falling out or dying and giving it a soft life growth. Call and examine this machine and have your hair singed. Special attention given to dressing Ladies hair. Cutting hair done with exquisite and artistic skill by the old University Barber of twenty years experience. The Singeing Machine is highly recom mended by scientists throughout the coun try.
