The University of the South, at Sewanee, Term., situated in the mountains, has its vacation in the winter; so the Sewarncc Times will be missed until April. The last number of Nozvitzky's Monthly, published by G. I. No witzky, the well-known maker of patent medicines contains as its leading editorial, a very patriotic and enthusiastic article on our Univer sity. C. From a four paged newspaper that appeared semi-occasionally, it has growned to be a full fledged maga zine neatly bound and well edited. We hope the chang-e is permanent and wish it success. Stanford, Law '94, is one of the assistant clerks of the State House of Representatives. W. B. Rodman, '82, Washing ton, has been appointed Colonel of the first regiment, N. C. S. G. C. T. Grandy, '86, has bought an interest in the State, an evening paper of Richmond Va., and will edit it. II. R. Starbuck, '87, of Winston, is one of the new Superior Court Judges, and the youngest on the bench. P. D. Gold, ex.-'97, is teaching in Wilson County, and C. F. McRae, ex.-'97, is teaching in Cumberland County. C. H. White, B. S. '94, who re ceived the Kerr Prize in Geology, has been appointed instructor in Geology at the University of Ten nessee. Josephus Daniels, '84-85, will re sign his position in the Interior De partment at Washington, D. C. , and return to Raleigh to take charge of the News & Observer. Chas S. Mangum, '91, Med. '92, gymnasium instructor here for two years, has finished his work in the hospital of the Jefferson Medical College, of Philadelphia, from which he graduated last April, and is now the resident surgeon to a Pennsylvania mining Company.
