The earth has brought rth abundantly of the food products i response to our labors, the prices of Law materials have advanced, indus trial progress has been awakened in our 'midst and the future looks brgihter than the past few years of disaster and want. Our people should be thankful for the blessings vouchsafed to them, and in grateful remembrance of His good ness and in obedience to our laws and the time honored custom of our , fore fathers, devote one day of the year to His service. Therefore, I, Elias Carr Govenor of North Carolina, do hereby appoint Thursday, the 28th day of Novem ber, 1895. as a day of solemn and pub lie Thanksgiving to God for past bless ings and of supplication for His con tinued kindness and care over us as a State and Nation. I earnestly request every citizen of this great Commonwealth to lay aside his usual business, assemble either in the Churches or around the hreside, ana make this Festival a day ! o Praver and Thanksffivme-. Let not the day be devoted to amu sements, but with grateful hearts give praise to God for the preservation of our liberties and for the advancement of our Nation in proserity and greatness. This State has been the home o; freedom and the abiding place of virtuous and noble people. Let not the day pass without ac knowledgement of all these blessings and let us remember in our prayers and offerings the charitable institu tions of the State, the wounded and needy soldiers, the orphan, the poor and afflicted, and by substantial giv ing show forth the thankfulness o our hearts. ' In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina to be affixed.
