Damascus Ifigb School. This school was established only one year ao but judging- from the high quality of their Commencement exercises, held on F riday, the 17th, it is an excellent preparatory school. The principals of the school are Messrs. W. C. Wicker, of the class of '.95 and Herbert Scholz, A. M. of Elon College. They are assisted in the department of mu sic by Miss Emma Harward. The school is situated at Lind say a few miles from the Hill and includes both sexes in its enroll ment of over sixtr pupils. The exercises in the morn ing consisted of orations by the male, and recitations bv the female members of the class. In the alter noon, Mr. H. H. Home, A. M. '95 delivered an address on "What Ed ucation does for a Man." His ad dress was thoughtful, well chosen and added a great deal to the occa sion. At night the exercises consisted of dialogues, tableaux and music. They were much enjoyed by all who heard them. The head of the music department deserves much credit for the performance of her pupils. Many of the students and towns people attended the exercises and ail report a very enjoyable trip. The Tar Heel congratulates the principals on their good work and wishes them much success with their school. Our Record. N. On a summer's night with a pale full moon " . , . While all who were honest slept, The band of "Thcta formed inline And to the campus crept Slowly they moved without a sound. Devoid almost of life Until behind they left their den To come out for the strife. Then there broke upon the air ' A noise both loud and long, . " As they disturbed our slumbers sweet With drum and fife and song. . ,. Proudly they marched to " column right" And then to column left" While "cussed" and told by all around They were of ininb bereft, But curses and anathemas They did not mind at all, Much wore than that was needed To kill their stock of gall. But 'S.Mi ttot from the Aona Star State", Their noble cohorts spied With angry eye he glanced at them And to his valet cried: ; "Bring forth my implements of war, . Of fin?, death and flame. , I'll run th.lt T.ieU" band of roughs Right back from where they came, I'll teach them I the ru'.er am In these precincts at least. . ' ' I'll tear their brainsfrom out their skulls And throw them -to the beasts." j v ' .Then out he came prepared to fight And charged them crying, "Yield," And with unearthly cries and groans . ue drove them from the field, And thus the "Thetas" he dispersed. And drove them to their den, All honor be to him. we say, May they not come again. Cathode Rays. '.
