Messrs. P.' Gorrell, R. E. Follin, Cleht Miller,, Charlie Hill, Frank Miller and E. A. Lockett spent Thanksgiving in Winston. Dr. Alderman was to deliver an address'at Elon College Thursday night but was too unwell to go, so the appointment was deferred. Quite a number of students spent Tha nVsorivitir at home. More - than usual, probably because the boys were not allowed to go to the foot-ball game at Richmond. The public meeting of the "West minister League" at the Presbyte rian church on Sunday night' was interesting and profitable to those who attended. May the League have success." v Mr. Massev, pastor of the Meth odist church, goes, Tuesday, to at tend the Annual Conference. Mr. Massey has seryed us faithfully for two years. We hope he will be re turned to us.' Old Mr. Mason, , who has been sick so long at the home of Dr. T. J. Wilson, died on Saturday night and was buried Sunday. Mr. Ma son's condition appeared to be im proving and he was able to be up a few days ago, but he was taken worse and did not again rally. Prof. Holmes has again made the student body his debtor by doing' a public spirited act. On Thursday morning an eight inch snow covered the ground, and Prof. Holmes sent his teams and driver with snow plow and cleaned the walks that lead to the Commons, recitation rooms and hotels. This was all done before the breakfast hour and the student heart was made glad. In behalf of the students we thank Prof.- Holmes for his work. Just now when one is hard pressed with work it is more than flesh and blood can patiently, bear to go to the ibrary and find that some inconsidr erate person has "slipped" the ref erence book that one must have. Books that are absolutely neces sary to proper study in courses are thus taken and kept for weeks at a ime, and the work of' a whole class stagnated by the selfishness of one or two men. The librarian is abso- utely powerless to stop this practice and there seems to be no remedy, The slipping and tearing of the reading-room papers still goes mer rilv on, too, and we venture to guess hat the same men are guilty, ot both misdemeanors. The Record The University Record has made its appearance and we hope the stu dent body will liberally patronize Iwj w w. m- - , ;horoughly Keep xne univcisuj uc nrP iho alumni and people of the ftafA and to supply our friends with facts concerning our doings here.
