RepresetitiVe Speakers Elected. At the last meeting- of I'.ze SocLtic good judgment was shown in the sclec: tion of the Representative Speakers for the Commencement of 1899. The Dialectic Society entrusted their hopes of victory to Messrs, Cof fey, Berkely and Allison. Mr. CoiTey showed his skill as a debater in the last inter-Society debate. It now re mains for him to prove his ability as an orator. From Messrs. Berkely and and Allison their Society may well af ford to expect good work, since their earnest efforts in society work led to their being chosen to fill such places of responsibility to their society. Against these gentlemen the Phil anthropic Society placedtheir choice men, namely : Messrs. A J. Barwick, D. P. Parker and N. E. Ward. The constant work of these men dates fromthe night of their iniatia tton. Mr. Barwick won the declaim er's medal two years ago. Mr. Par ker's power as a clever debater is rec ognized throughout college. Mr. Ward has always shown an active in terest in society work and his fellow members may well expect something good from him. With these men to represent them both societies feel ' confident of vic tory. HEADQUAR E F FOR Clothing, Hats, Shoes, Utt- . dewear, etc. AT POPULAR PRICES. MERCHANT TAILOR, - RALEIGH, N. C. SAMPLES Tar Heel Inconsistency Use Red. The Tar Heel, the official organ of the Athletic Association of the Uni versity of North Carolina, published at Chapel Hill, is a very neat and gen erally a very consistent journal, but in its issue of November 30 it drifted, far : athwart of consistency by using blue ink. How Messrs. Connor and Broadhurst could reconcile the color the best au thorities fail to reveal. North Caro lina won; for this reason the "Sore PoAc tint "T-,f TToalo " j-fxvvo, ami I.UV JL O.L iiVl, should have the blues, and I hope' the next time that victory perches on the banner of: North. Carolina's great uni versity the Tak Heel will use regula tion red. Nozvitzky's Monthly. The above refers to the issue of the Tar Heel just after the Virginia foot ball game. Mr. Nowitzky's paper stands' as a proof that he is a well informed man but there are a few things yet for him to learn. Had he known that White and Blue are the colors of our Univer sity and that the news of our victory could best be borne to our friends printed in blue ink upon a white sheet, he would have held back the above article. However we will use "regu lation red" if he insists and send it for his inspection. Indeed it would be a novelty. Magazine.
