The bank of Chapel Hill recently got its charter from the General Assembly. The office of the bank will be in a building that is to be erected between Yearby's drug store and McCauley's. The Cap ital of the bank is to be 310.000. The bank is to be established by the Lindsay Investment Company with C. L. Lindsay as president. Venable attended the meeting of the North Carolina Chemical Association last week in Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Webb, Jr., of Be'llebuckle, Tenn., arrived upon the Wednesday. Mr. Fred. Nissen has gone to his home in WTinston being afflicted with a severe case of La Grippe. Messrs. E. N. Joyner and C. L. Glenn went to Raleigh last week. We are sorry to report that Mr. Joyner is there confined to his room with La Grippe. Mr. J. D. Grimes, '99, went to Raleigh last week. Prof. M. C. S. Noble returned to the Hill from Raleigh ednesday morning, The annual meeting of the board of trustees of the University was held in the Governor's office at Ral eigh Tuesday, Feb. 14th, 1899 After drawing up resolutions on the death of Dr. Manning, it adjourned to Wednesday. March 1st. Dr. Alderman's sicuness kept him frnm hino- in attendance and for that, reason the meeting was ad journed. We are sorry to hear of a serious mishap to Mr. T. J. Cretkmore, class of '97, who is at present Sup erintendent of the Graded School at Clinton, N. C. One day last week he was attacked on the streets of that town by two boys whom he had sometime before dismissed from school. Injuries were inflicted which confined him to his bed. The culprits were taken into custody and bound over to the Superior Court. Prof. Holmes went to Washing ton city last Thursday. morning to deliver ' a lecture before the tsnaKespere Club there but the bad weather kept him from going.
