The course in Expression that is
being given by that department is a
good one and every one should take
it. Expression is not only needed
by those who are to take part in the
Society contests and in Commence
. ment exercises but also by those who
wish to get out of a play the best re-
suits. At present the Instructor is
giving attention to certain plays
that are being given in the English
course here and to understand these
better every one should take advan
tage of it. Besides this, two after
noons of the week are devoted to the
teaching of the art of expression
from selections taken from many
noted dramatists and poets. We
all realize how greatly we are defic
ient in this line and there is no doubt
but that we can be made to over
come, to a great extent at least, this
deficiency if we only pay proper
attention to the Instructor who
has but recently come among us, for
surely he seems to know what he is
about.
always done and she has spared
no-hing to show how royally she
could treat us. For which we give
her thanks and assure her that
when her representatives come to us
next year that she shall have
the tame welcome and treatment.
The University, although many
do not agree with us, makes men
who are able to represent her and
uphold her in an7 capacity she choos
es to put upon them. Especially is
this seen in our connection with the
University of Georgia for the last
year. Last fall our foot ball team
went South, and in Georgia's own
territory defeated her overwhelm
ingly. Last week two representa
tives went again to. them, although
not on the same mission but on one
of equal importance to the Univer
sity, and again are victorious.
Without any thing or any one to
cheer them on except our own good
wishes for their success, they go
from us to the enemy's country
where they 'carry off the palm of
victory and bring it to Carolina.
To say how proud we are of their
success would take many words and
even then we might not be able to
express our feeling on that subject.
We can, however, show to our rep
resentatives and victors in this de
bate that we are proud and happy
to know that they have done so
much to sustain and increase the
reputation of Carolina in those parts.
Georgia in her defeat shows noth
ing but friendliness to us as she has

Address Before the Law Class.
Ex-Judge H. G. Connor, of Wil
son, has accepted the invitation of
Dr. Alderman to deliver the annual
address before the Law Class on
Monday of commencement week.
Dr. Alderman's choice is a good
one, we think, and we have no
doubt but that Judge Connor will
fully sustain his reputation for
scholarly and legal ability on this
occasion.
A Card.
In view of the fact, that a large
number of students are being vac
cinated, and at the request of the
gymnasium director, I wish to state
that those who are compelled to at
tend the gymnasium and who are
training in base ball and track ath
letics, need not from fear of injury,
discontinue their practice, as no se
rious results will occur, though in
case the arm becomes extremely
stiff and sore a rest of one or two
days will be sufficient.
Respectfully,
R. H. Whitehead.
