In athletics, in scholarship and in all work of the University, the prospects are indeed bright. ' A. During, the year many speakers of national reputation will come here and' address the . student-, body. Besides the Tar Heetj suggets and hopes that the Faculty will give bi monthly lectures as they did two years ago. ; . - -. Many changes were noted -by the returning students; ; , i, Work had commenced on the beautiful new dormitory, Carr Hall and the foundations are almost laid. Arrangements are being made to carry on tne Duuaing ot Alumni Hail. ' ' Many changes had been made in the library, which was repaired in the interior, new books added and other improvements wrought. : A' new Athletic field was being clear ed and leveled on the south-eastern part of the campus. :. , i) . There ore only a few changes in the faculty. -Dr. Xinscott succeeds Prof. Harrington as Latin Profess or, and Mr. T. J. Wilson accepts Dr. Linscott's former position as Assistant. Judge McRae ' succeeds Judge Shepherd who had been elected to fill Dr. Mannin's position as ; Dean of the Law School, but who . later found it would be impossible to ac cept the position. An account of the opening of the University would be , Incomplete without some mention of Dr. Alderman's annual talk to the entire student body at the beginning of each session. For an hour Dr. Alderman, lect ured to the students, giving advice, telling them of the University's usefulness, pointing out the ad vantages we enjoy and talking generally of the internal life here. The address was delivered in Dr. Alderman's fine way and was much enjoyed by the large number of students. j In a few days all departments will be again in smooth running order. Th! different societies and and ciubs will soon meet again and every thing will continue with but two iutermissioqvThanks givilng and University Day" until the Christmas Holidays.
