It is gratifyiug to note the stand taken by men trained at the Uni versity of North Carolina. We are glad to learn than J, R. Harris. '94, has been promoted to the position of Chief Chemist to theTennessee Coal and Iron Company, with a substantial increase of salary; H. L. Miller, '90, has been made divis ion Superintendent of the Virginia Carolina Chemical Co., with con trol of eight fertilizer factories; A" W. Belden, '98, has been promoted to chief Chemist ol the Birmingham Cement Co. A further evidence of the appreci ation of the training here is seen in the fact that four of our boys have received appointments this year; F. W, Miller, chemist to the Northern Alabama 'Coal and Iron Co., Talladega, Ala; Thomas Clarke, chemist in the Biochemical Laboratory, Washington, D. C; J.'. G. Kelley, and J. J. Asbury, assist ant chemist to the Tenn. Coal and Iron Co. The leaving of Dr. Clarke has necessitated the promotion of J. E. Mills of this year's class to the the position of assistant in chemistry where he is doing good work. Meeting of the Senior Class. The " Senior Class met in the Chapel last Friday afternoon.
