Frederick Cleve laid al SHuaCH.k Sunday morning and "At VrrZi:i Wednesday Might. ' "vwl Dr. Aldermnn Talks. Lost Thursday at the last half of the last morning hour, Dr. Al derman spoke to the students on matters of college interest. He said that the two greatest changes in college life for the past few years had been the introduction of the elective system and the intro duction of athletics. 1 He spoke of the value of athletics and said that the time has arrived for the Uni versity to take its stand for abso lute purity and cleanliness in ath letic life, To make a stand we must first define professionalism. Never ; again rr ill our team play against anv team that; has the slightest taint of professionalism about it. He spoke of the Summer Session of the University. It will begin aboujt the 16th of June and end about the 12th. of September. The fstudies and arrangements were described and other features were spoken 'of . The Carr building will be ready for occupancy by the fall term and the scheme for drawing" the rooms will be sent to the students during the Summer. - . Visitors to the Game, A large number of visitors were over last Saturday to see the Hor ner game. Among- the number the names of the following- were ob tained: Mr. R. S. Busbee '98 of Raleigh. Mr. J. Crawford Biggs '93 of Dur ham, Mr. George Davis ex-'Ol of Wilmington, Mr" James Royster of Wake Forest College, Mrs. B. N. Duke, Miss Mary Duke, Mr. An- Rob Carr, all of Durham, Messrs. Henry London '00 and Headen By num ex-'Ol of Pittsboro. The following came from Trini ty College: Messrs. Anderson, Wilkins, Allen, Caldwell, Donne hauer, Mims and Dwire. The March Magazine. The March number of the Maga zine is just out. Though it does not contain a great deal of matter, what it has is of a high order of ex cellence. We are sure that the readers of the Magazine will read the last installment of "John Lu cas" with regret that it is finished. It is by far the most notable and scholarly of this year's contribu tions to the Magazine. In "Ole Marse Henry," "M. K. S." shows a mastery of the negro dialect almost equal to that of Uncle-Remus. It is a good story, well written of the devotion of the old time negroes to their former masters. The historical article is entitled "The Early Settlements of the Mo ravians in North Carolina" and is by Mr. D. M. Swink, who from his residence among the descendants of these early settlers, is qualified to write a valuable paper. The "Spanish Tragedy and Hamlet" shows careful study on the part of the writer. It makes patent to us the influence exerted by the Latins upon the master of all English dramatists. Mr. Osborne, the president of the Y. M. C. A., shows the influence of that oiganization in college. His article is accompanied by adescrip- of the projected home of the Y. M. C. A. The different editorial -departments of the Magazine are always well conducted. The editor-in-chief has the happy faculty of ex pressing his opinion on matters of current interest clearly and 'forci bly, while the editors in charge-of the other departments make them worthy of emulation. But to the writer, the gem of the whole issue is the tribute to Mr, May by Dr. II. F. Linscott, In this tribute head and heart have vied with'each other in producing a poem of exquisite beauty and feel ing. Taken as a whole this issue of the Magazine reflects the greatest credit upon those who have it in charge. We are glad to see Dr. Battle out again after a short illness, Messrs. DeBerniere Whitaker ex- 91, now of Santiago de Cuba, and Percy Whitaker '98 of Philadel phia were on the Hill last week on a short visit to Mrs. Graves. Important to Teachers and School Boards.
