Some time ago Dr. Royster on
behalf of the class in journalism
accepted with a great deal of
pleasure the kind , invitation of
Mr. Josepbeus Daniels to visit the
office of the News and Observer
during rush hours, and also the
invitation of Mr. S. B. Farabee,
of the Raleigh Evening Times,
to see the evening paper brought
out. Last Tuesday morning the
class went to Raleigh, visited
both offices, and saw how the
work was done in each of them.
The trip from beginning to end
was one of the pleasntest, most
interesting, and most instructive
ever taken by University stu
dents. They were most cordial
ly received at the offices of both
papers. Every courtesy and at
tention was shown ' them by the
reporters, editors, and devils on
both the papers. Every effort
was made on the part of the
hosts to show the members of the
class how the work on the paper
was done.
riot much time was spent at
the office of the Evening Tin
because work on the paper was
about over for the day when the
class arrived in Raleigh. Most
of the afternoon and all of the
night till 2:30 a. m. was spent at
the News and Observer office. The
class was received with great
cordiality. Reporters and editors
were of course very busy, but
they seemed for that reason all
the more anxious to show the
class every detail of the paper.
Thev did every thing in their
power to make the visit pleasant
and worth while. They succeed
ed wonderfully well, for the trip
will long be remembered by those
who were fortunate enough to
take it as one of the finest they
ever made.
This is. of course, the last issue
of the paper that will appear be
fore the holidays. There will
be one issue after Christmas be
fore examinations begin, but the
present issue seems to us to wind
up the fall term.
TIT t . . " " "
we nave cone tn . best we
could to make the paper inter
esting and worth while. What
ever our failures they haveheenj
due to our limitations and inabil
ity rather than lack of effort and
attention.
CONSTITUTION ADOPTED
"We are in receipt of an an
nouncement from the U. S. Civil
Service Commission calling at
tention to an examination to be
held January 17-18, 1912, for fill
ing several vacancies in the po
sition of assistant chemist, De
partment of Agriculture, and
elsewhere as needed, at salarie's
ranging from $1200 to $1600 per
annum. The opportunities for
appointment from this examina
tion seem to be excellent, since of
thirty-eight persons who passed
this examination in April, 1911,
three were appointed at $1440 per
unnum, tnd twenty-seven other

minor changes made. This con
stitution as adapted will be

The vote was very close. .For
