Ross Crane Delights a Big Audience by His in the Use of Crayons and Modeling Ross Crane, the cartoonist, with his company, consisting of can vasses and crayons, modeling- aumidv ana piauo, great- J" Uelihted a lar audience in Gerrard Hall Salurdav eveniny by his art and versatility. Mr. Cra " viivi3vMl AAA the use of crayons in producing cartoons or. landscapes that can seldom be surpassed, except by iNlotber Nature herself. Un- A ... I .4... J 1 .. 1 '. . , UUMUlcu,.x 1118 greatest crayon siceicu was an illustration of Tennyson's "Crossing the Bars". Vividly did be show the "Sunset and evening star", the blue of the ocean, the changing colors of the clouds piled up in the background, and the sable bark putting out to sea. No less beautiful was the scene of the "Sewauee River", by the pale light of the rising moon. On the banks was the typical negro cabin, desolate and gloomy, but made bright and cheerful by one stroke, causing the light of a candle to shine from the window. Drawing a dog, and lengthen ing instead of shortening his tail, Mr. Crane completely upset the Darwinian Theory, demonstrat ing that men are descended from the canine family by revolution rather than frommonkey by evolu tion. With a few strokes he drew the burloy "cop", Farmer Corn tassel, and the financial shark. Placing on a high collar the head of one of the daughters of Eve, with one sweeping stroke, he pro duced the remarkable bean pole effect of the latest in female dress. Mr. Crane is no less an artist in clay-modeling than with cray ons, vvitn wonaenui pertection and in a remarkably short time, he formed the faces and features of Robert E. Lee, Abraham Lincoln, and "Uncle Sam". By a few touches, he transformed the sour and stern face of the boardiug mistress into one wear- ingthe smile that nevercomes off. Throughout the evening, Mr. Crane kept up a steady flow of rare and pleasing wit. His ability to entertain was thorough ly demonstrated by the numerous rounds of applause from the large and appreciative audience. Batteries -Schaefer and Thom as; Woods and Swink.
