Being as how Thursday will be a holiday, and as how the print shop force will very probably odds seven and a half to two be in a , sad state of demoralization about that time, the able busi ness manager of the Tar Heel with a clarifying perspicuity of perception decided that the publication should be published before that day. In his decision the board of editors acquiesced tor these reasons the sheet now appears. On Thanksgiving Day the state University and the state College of Agricultural and Me chanic Arts will play the state University of Virginia and the Washington and Lee University of Virginia respectively. One plays in Richmond; the other in Norfolk both in the enemy's territory, though North Carolina has many loyal sons and support ers m each place. A. & M. here s to you. May North Car olina prevail in both placee. 1 he sate and sane mass meet ing Friday night was of the right kind. There was no bon fire built to cook up enthusiasm, nor Dana present to stir it while being cooked. It was iust a plain mass meeting of the stu dents without any frills. The songs and yells were practiced. lhen a few speeches were made reminding us of our duty to the ream wneiner it be a winning or a losing one. The essence of it with regard to the fact that we have a good fight ahead of us WITH FLYING COLORi I The Dramatic Club "Last yeaT we expected to win1FridaJr gfetfwas one , ; , , . , most successful and one mm scut up mur nunurea men i . , , r as.. smoker of the of the A.irnr 1 1 ii i r . ii TO 10) to see the game in Richmond; this year we are doubtful about winning and should send up eight hundred." Mr. Booker said this at the mas3 meeting Friday night and rapped the nail on the head when he said it Tit .. M u aoesn t take much ot a man to throw up his hat and shout when the returns are coming -in right. Anybody with a hat and a mouth can do that. But it does require a littls manhood to yell at ths top of your voice and vociferate that your crowd is the best crowd on . the face of the ball when the odds are against you. The idea has got abroad among some that we are going to Rich mond on a sort of forlorn hope. Funny how ideas get abroad isn't it? It seems that as soon as a man admits that he has a good 1 stiff fight ahead of hirri everyone con cludes at once that the man is beat. If he goes ahead. and says that he is sure to beat, although ie knows that there are going to be about fifty points against him to his none, then everyone catches some kind of a betting confidence in him, offers two to one odds on him, and winds up a hearty unsupporter of his erst whil hero. But about that idea of the "forlorn hope" everybody who knows the team knows that that have been- pulled off here in some several time. Everybody there was happy. We ate and we laughed and we smoked; then we turned around and did it all over again. After that we smoK ed arid laughed and ate. Then we did that again. Next we sought a new combination. Then we went i n for permutations.-; Next mixed combinations and permutations indiscriminately and finally wound up by not car ing in which order we did them just so they were done. On with the smokers: let iov be un- confined. DRUGGISTS. OUR COLORED SUPPCSTEKi The following was written by one of Carolina's most loyal sup porters. He is the head waiter (colored) at the University Inn. If he can support the team like this, f then what ought we, the students, to do? We publish it just as it was handed to us, with out any alterations: We are groins' to Richmond on thanksgiving day . It makes us begin to bubble with confidence. We like to think of the good old days when they were here playing and beating up everything that they ran against. We know that they by their presence and encourage ment can make the team fight better and better; and we know that their advice to the men and their individual coaching ol the men will have the right effect. The student body feels better when they see former Carolina players back helping coach the leant. We know that the alumni as always are heart and muI with us. Carolina would fight against Virginia Thanksgiving like she did against Georgetown for the first half and against Washing ton and Lee for the first quarter, then Carolina was bound to win She couldn't help herself.
