www 15k L, g:: SHAW'S ARMS AND THE MAN ,;, ,. J.; The Modern and Fascinating Comedy Vill be Presented December 4. "Arms and the Man" will be presenteu in Gerrard Hall Friday lVct'nler 4th, without Hernard Shaw. ,. , ; When "Pygmalion", Shaws newest comedy was to be presen t ed for the first time this fall in the New Theatre, the manage ment" wired Mr. Shaw to come over to New York for the first performance. Shaw in the cable gram in answer made the charac teristic reply that "as America had waited so long for a visit from him that he could not now risk it because Americans miffh ,o disappointed in him after he came." The management., of "Arms and the Man", which is to he presented here by the University Dramatic Association, wanted to "et Mr. Shaw for the first per formance at Chapel Hill Decem ber 4th, but U regrets that Mr. Shaw cannot leave' England. " However, the star cast of the Dramatic Club will present "Arms and the Man" regardless. The cast now consists of four N. C. Dramatic men, Coffffin, Johnson. Weeks, and Kerr who will be great factors in the production of this clever and fascinating little comedy. " A change was recently effected in the cast in subs'titutingKerr fbr Meredith in Catherine's part, and in Meredith's taking the leading lady's part, Kaina. It is of interest to note that the Dramatic Club is putting on a modern comedy, and one in which the people of North Caro lina will be interested. Dr. Henderson's Opinion. Carolina can win this year. She has the players, the plays, the team wark, the has, and the spirit. Two other qualities are absolutely iudespensable for vic tory. First, ability to decipher Virginia's system of defense. Our team can, I believe, meet Vir ginia's offence. Second, field generalship-Carolina's great de ficiency in , recent years, It is imperative now for the sort of headwork that sizes up each play or system of plays with reference to its adaptability at a particular stage of the game. Given these two qualities, the ability to solve Virginia's system of defence, and the type of field generalship which utilizes a team and its style of-play for its full value, and ',ve will, win. Archibald Henderson. Dean Stacy will speak at Wilks- boro during community service CLASS TENNIS HATCHES Winners of Tournament Will Wear Class Numerals. Let KODAK Solve ENOCH ARDEN A SUCCESS Mrs. Winston and Mr. Ber nard Please Large Audience The rendition of Strauss music to Tennyson's famous poem, "Enoch Arden," by Mrs. Win ston and Professor Bernard at the Presbyterian church last night, surpasses by far any event of its nature which has been given here this season. . Long before the appointed hour the church was filled and many were forced to stand. It is impossible to describe the beaqty of the piece and the ad mirable manner in which it was rendered., It is sufficient to say it eclipsed every expectation, and from the first note to the last the entire audience sat motionless. enraptured by the wonderful combination of poetic and musi- cal skill. As explained before, Strauss is possibly the greatest composer of "tone poems" the world has ever known, and his great success with "Enoch Arden is a master- piece in which he seemed to put his whole heart and soul. The students, appreciate the opportunity to . enjoying an entertainment of such rare qual ity and trust that Mrs. Winston and Professor Bernard will again favor them.
