Old Eli had to shed his coat
and swing the bat lustily to win
from the Tar Heels last Monday,
for Nemo had his slow ball work
ing to perfection and puzzled the
gentlemen 'from' the north. Al
though it was Coleman's first game
this season he handed the sphere
I'ke a veteran. Several times he
pulled himself out of bad holes
when men on bases threatened
runs for- Yale.
. The Carolina stick artists were
continually baffled by the pitching
of Garfield, who started things off
badly for the home team, his ben
ders refusing to be touched. The
White and Blue refused to brave
a circuit journey until the sixth
frame,, when things were made
hot :f or Garfield. Coleman flied
out Stewart died ait first. Ilerty
struck one in the hedge in left and
stopped at second. Barnes lifted
lis customary home run over the
fence near the left foul line, two
runs ambling across the dish. Ro
berts ambled, Folger singled, Jen
nette strolled and Llewellyn, hit
ting for Ivirkman, whiffed.
Yale had three big innings. In
the fourth the first man up popped
to Bennett. Weeks muffed the
next man's fly who. then stole and
scored on Munson's hit. V
In the sixth Yale got two more.
Early beat out a bunt and took
second oiJLyman's sacrifice. Mun
son drove the second ball pitched
fir over the left field fence, scor
ing Early and himself. ; "
No further scoring occurred, al
though both teams threatened, Car
olina continually. , In the ninth a
run seemed sure, but Early's pret
ty catch in left, doubling Pitman
at first, smashed all hope of a Tar
Heel victory.

TUG OF WAR NEXT WEEK
Tho Tug of War which was to

John Terry, manager of the Jun
ior gang, thinks there will bo
enough Seniors on the Hill at that
timo to givo his crew a little exer
cise. Plans have matured for the
excavation of a mud-hole through
which tho well, Villa Currio, says
no ! lie has infinite faith in the
pull of the Sophomore class. Frank
Ilerty, Freshman, contends jthat a
tug of war is. the only place where
to pull should count for anything.
.Tiand claims that the Seniors
didn't have the heart to drag all
three classes through the mud be
fore the fair, ladies, and excuses
the lack of Seniors for thatfrcason.
