June 22. 1951 THE TAR HEEL Pf ThP E. W. Knight Is Author Of New Education Book Dr. Edrar W. Knicht. Kenan orofessor of educational history in the University, and Dr. Clifton L. Hall, professor of educational history in George Peabody College for Teach ers, are the joint authors of Headings in American Educa tional History," which has just been published by Appleton Century-Crofts of New York. Guest speakers from the stu ient body and. faculty as well as pastors from the local churches will preside over the services. The interfaith council was re cently organized by the Univer sity to attempt to control and direct religious activities of the campus and to put more empha- us upon religion in higher edu cation. Carroll R. Taylor, who will preside over today's devo tional, is student president of the organization. Dr. Arnold Nash, dean of the Religion Department, is advisor. Sarah Thurston, coed from At lanta, Ga., is organist for the bi weekly devotional programs. Band to Meet University bard is sneering for the summer session al 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thurs days in Hill Hall annex Z. Ap proximately 30 people reported for band practice this week and Allen Garrett, summer director, urges anyone else, who can play a musical instrument and is in terested in Joining the band, to attend next week's rehearsals. Tentative summer echedule for the music group calls for a lawn concert at the end of each summer session. Other con certs will probably be given oc casionally during the summer. The apparent recent revival of interest in social and education al history and the obvious in crease of emphasis on acquain tance with original sources in the study of history give significance to the book. Lost and Found Open The lost and found office op erated by the Y is holding many items of student property. Among these are two pairs of glasses lost during registration which are still unclaimed. The department re- auests anyone who has lost per sonal property to stop in and ask whether it has been brought to the lost and found. Freshmen Meet Freshmen had a get-together last night at the 'Y" to become better acquainted with each other and with the University.
