Page Eight THE TAB HEEL June 22, 1951 Gray Denies New Post Will Interfere (Special to the Tar Heel) Charlotte, June 20 President Gordon Gray of the University of North Carolina told an alum ni rally here last night that the four Negroes recently admitted are "being treated like other students." "It is a difficult problem," Gray said. But he declared that the admission of the Negroes had not caused any unpleasant incidents on the campus at Chapel HilL Gray, recently appointed by President Truman as chairman of a national board of psycho logical warfare, denied the con tention of some University trus tees that the assignment would interfere with his educational duties. "I am not leaving vhe Uni versity," Gray said. "This is not even to be considered a leave of absence." The trustees agreed after some dispute yesterday to per mit Gray to spend "two or three days" a week in Washington to organize the new board. Ralph Casey, away at Colum bia University for a year for hi- ED. D. in physical education, will return to Caro::na at the end of the summer session. Probably the youngest successful coach in tht business, Casey was the chief fac tor in determining the Blue Dol phms success in recent years. His greatest "accomplishment' was Jimmy Thomas, who was th greatest swimmer to ever swim ii the Southern Conference.
