Track Coach ed second in the 1951 Decathlon, held recently at Santa Barbara, Calif. This marked the second straight year that a former Tar Heel star has finished in the num ber two spot in this annual con test. Bill Albans, outstanding track star here two years ago, was runner-up to Bob Mathias last year. This year's winner, the Rev. Bob Richards, topped 14 feet in the pole vault, to shoot him ahead of Simmons, who was leading go ing into the second day. Simmons was outstanding in track here in 1946-47 and won the indoor and outdoor Southern Dale Ranson recognizes Simmons as one of the best trackmen to wear the Tar Heel colors. Simmons left recently as a member of a 12-man team for Ja pan where he will compete in a series of 12 meets Table Tennis Champ Skip Hoyle defeated Tommy Sumner, 21-18, 21-18, 21-18 and 21-12, in the table tennis fina last week, to emerge as top play er of the Graham Memorial Tour nament.
