Page Five Friday, July 13, 1951 THE TAR HEEL O m me For I Waugus; je Phi Kap Sig j Awarded Booby Prize The Waugus, Mural softball league 1 champions, last Tuesday defeated the league 2 Champion Mountaineers, 9-5, in the first of a three game series for the cam pus championship. The Waugus scored in all but the fifth inning in the champion ship battle, while allowing the Mountaineers to score only in the first and sixth. The Mountaineers got the game underway with a four run lead, but were unable to do anything else for the rest of the game. In the race for the Booby prize, the PiKAs edged out the Phi Kap Sigs, 16-15. The Kap Sigs were awarded an appropriate prize signifying their position at the bottom of the campus title race. Like the Mountaineers, the Kap Sigs blew a four point lead that they accumulated in the first inn ing. The Kap Sigs scored eight runs in the first, five in the fourth, and one each in the fifth and seventh. The PiKAs managed to get four runs in the first, but were held scoreless in the second. They collected seven tallies in the third and five in the fourth to end their scoring at 16 runs, and the honor of escaping the Booby prize. Golfing Ace Turns Pro Roy McKenzie of Winston-Salem, an ex-Tar Heel golfing ace, has turned pro. The Twin Citian joined the ranks of the profes sionals a few weeks ago and en tered the playoffs for a berth in the U. S. Open. McKenzie's score wasn't quite good enough to put him in the big tourney being played at Bir mingham, Mich. Nynmicz And Moody Accept New Coaching Positions Two past Carolina greats were have accepted positions at Mer named to coaching positions re cently. I " I : r cer University, Macon, Ga., and Riverside Military Academy, at Gainesville, Ga., and Hollywood, Fla., respectively. Nynmicz, former Tar Heel golf and basketball star, will take over as head basketball coach at Mer cer in the fall. Moody, who holds the South ern Conference Outdoor, Carolina Rslay, and National Intercolle giate record in the high jump, will take over as track coach at i Riverside, also in the fall. Last year he toured successfully South America, South Africa, and Eu rope. Seixas was runnerup at Wim bledon last year and remained in the championships at Forest Hills until the quarter finals when Art Larsen, winner of the tourney, knocked him out. The seventh ranking player in the nation last year, he has been quiet since a Cuban tournament earlier in the spring, but is plan ning to return to Forest Hills in August. Ted Schroeder who has been a mainstay on the team since the war was not considered this year at his own request because he didn't feel that he would have the time due to business interests. represent the United States on the Davis Cup team that will play Japan in the American Zone com petition at Louisville, next month, is former Carolina tennis great, Vic Seixas. Seixas will join Dick Savitt of Orange, N. J.; Herb Flam of Bev erly Hills, Cal.; Bill Talbert of New York; 'Tony Trabert of Cin cinnati; Art Larsen of San Lean oro, Cal.; Hamilton Richardson of Baton Rouge, La.; and Gardnar Mulloy of Coral Gables, Fla. Savitt will head the squad and play singles along with Flam. Tal bert and Trabert will play dou bles while the remaining mem bers of the squad will fill in when necessary.
