During my four years in Chapel Hill, only one coed has coquetted in my direction. Perhaps I am one of the "four out of five" who have . . .; however most of my friends report the same sad state of affairs. Whv women are not flirting, we do not know. It may be that in their battle for "equal rights" (whatever that entails), women have sacrificed their most pre cious possession the feminine personality. While we do not condone discrimination against women, we do hold that women should not forget that there are two sexes from a psychological as well as a physiological point . of view. We note with disgust the in creasing popularity of this song and dance on the part of women; "All men want from women is to gel their kicks." We do rea lize that sexual gratification is essential for the mental well being of both men and women. ' However, if all that men desired from women be sexual satis faction in a mechanical manner, would it not be better for all concerned to institute legalized ' prostitution? Certainly such an institution' would increase effi ciency. Although legalized prostitu tion might serve to lessen in some respects the sex-tensions prevalent in our society, it would, not in any way aid in restoring to the mass of women the type of femininity which would become them. For such to happen, women must think of themselves as beings rather than bodies. And in their being, they should seek to regain the coquetry, the hurror, the seem ing naivete and the romance which made living laughable and lovable in the past. r VESPERS The weekly Open Arboretum community sing will be held to day at 6 p.m. A short vesper ser vice will be included and refresh ments will be provided. - H-Bomb - (Continued jrom Page I)' area during most 'of the study period. First-hand analysis of the rapid changes will constitute a major job of the research staff. Under the major headings of housing and community planning, and personal adjustment of family members in the project-affected area, the study staff will seek to follow the relationship between needs for housing and community facilities and -services, and' the provision of these things. Ano ther section of the study will deal with how the present residents and the newcomers adjust their habits and attitudes to the many changes. Chancellor House indicated that the study is the first of its kind and should be useful to other areas where similar changes take place as major industries develop or move. The research team will utilize University personnel trained in town and city planning, housing community sociology, social and clinical psychology, and family sociology, he said. j "The substantial resources of the Institute for Research in So cial Science, supplementing the training of the research staff, enable the University of North Carolina to undertake this ac tivity," Chancellor House said. "This program will contribute general-interest knowledge of a practical and theoretical nature, and is an opportunity to add to our long-term objective of in tensively studying the changing South and its place in the nation. "At the same time, from the point of view of the sponsoring federal agencies, the study will provide a continuing story on the problems of the Savannah River area as they develop, thus not only serving as a guide to the administration of government programs in this area but- also as a guide to meeting similar sit uations that may arise with rapid expansion of defense industries elsewhere in the nation."
