McDonald, an attorney, have been named assistants to UNC Chancellor Ferebee Taylor. The appointments were effective yesterday. "A large volume and variety of matters arise v,hich require attention in the Chancellor's office and must be dealt with promptly and responsibly," Taylor said. "1 have selected two persons who, in my judgment, and in the judgment of my principal administrative colleagues, possess the qualities and dedication required to render the professional kind of assistance needed by the Chancellor. Evans will work primarily with programs initiated by the Chancellor to improve the University's overall operations. McDonald will deal primarily with matters initiated by others, such as members of the University community, parents. alumni, citizens and government agencies. Evans joined the UNC School of Business Administration faculty in 1970. He was named Chairman of the University's Curriculum in Operations Research and Systems Analysis in July 1973. He received his B.MJE., B.S., MS. and Ph. D. degrees from Cornell University. He has taught at Cornell, George Washington University and the University of Chicago. He will continue as professor in the School of Business Administration. McDonald has served since August, 1973, as assistant to Douglass Hunt, UNC V ice Chancellor for Administration. She graduated from the UNC law school in 1968 and was on the law faculty for three years. She has also practiced law in Raleigh and Washington D.C. Her undergraduate degree was earned at UNC. a ' J 1 1 1 1 T! J I i it T' 1 I J ?! V 1 j At least 5,000 people from around North Carolina and the nation are expected to attend Thursday's anti capital punishment rally in Raleigh. The rally is sponsored by the National Alliance Against Racism and Repression. The rally will begin at 9 a.m. in Raleigh's Memorial Coliseum where various national figures, including Stevie Wonder, Rev. Ralph Abemathy, Donald Byrd and Congressman John Conyers (D-M ich.) will speak. The rally is to protest North Carolina's capital punishment law, state hospital behavioral modification programs and state political repression in general. After the speeches, rally participants will march from the coliseum, around Central Prison, which houses the state's Death Row, to the State Capitol.
