For A Long Time This will be the last home ap pearance for the Blue and White FIVE TUMBLERS NAMED TO ENTER DURHAM TOURNEY Lawson Sends Team To Caro lina's First Big-Time Com petition Since 1922 Working on the final details of the first Carolina AAU gym nastic tournament. Dr. R. B. Lawson yesterday announced the team ne would enter in the meet, which is to be held March 12 at Duke university. Representing Carolina will be Edwin Winstead, Frank Trot man, J. M. Verner, Lunsford Long, and James Kirkpatrick. The men will work in combina tions of two on the five pieces of apparatus used in the contest, which include parallel and hori zontal bars, the horse, mats, and flying rings. The meet will be the first multi-competition gathering since the North Carolina Olym pic games in 1922. which were incidentally won by Dr. Lawson's teams. Baseball Practice Will Start Again On Emerson Today Candidates Asked To Attend Meeting Tuesday Night At 7 O'clock In Stadium Baseball practice will resume today on Emerson field, weather permitting. Coach Hearn stated that workouts would continue throughout next week. All candidates are requested j to be present at an important meeting Tuesday night in Emer son stadium at 7 o'clock. At tendance is imperative. Tar Heel Runners In Baltimore AAU Meeting Tonight Ranson Unable To Accompany Hendrix, White, Corpening, Wakely, Jennings, March Baltimore, March- 4. A half dozen trackmen from the Uni versity of North Carplina ar rived here tonight and prepared to converge with others of the fleet-footed clan in the annual Fifth Regiment Armory indoor games tomorrow night. The meet, AAU sanctioned, is being sponsored by the University of Maryland. ., ; Outstanding amateurs and many college runners are ex pected to compete for the hon ors. Kansas Glenn Cunningham, "old man" of track and world's fastest miler, will run in a fea ture event of the program, the Governor's mile. Without Coach The Tar Heel team for the first time without their coach, Dale Ranson, who is ill is com posed of Bill Hendrix, Carleton White;; Bill Corpening, Frank Wakeley, Royce Jennings, and Harry March. Royce Jennings and Harry March will run the 440, and Frank Wakely will mate with Carleton White in the intercol legiate mile. Johnny Morriss, assistant Tar Heel coach, has not definitely decided on the combi nation he will use in the mile relay. However, it is likely to be made up of Hendrix, White, Jennings, and March. Generals Lose LACROSSE COACH CALLING RECESS FOR JSOUD AYS Team Will Be Built On Experienced Men From North There will be no further la crosse meetings before the spring holidays but intensive spring practice will begin on March 22 on intramural field No. 6. This first practice will begin the training for the opening league contest with Duke on April 9. Football helmets, jer seys, and shoes, and lacrosse sticks and balls will be available. Cornsweet Coach Cornsweet is exceed ingly optimistic about lacrosse prospects on this campus. With a fine nucleus of experienced players hailing from Maryland, New York, Navy, and Exeter Prep, the coach sees a great op portunity for capturing the Dixie league championship this very first year of competition. So Beta Theta Pi is the only fraternity that has possessed the campus basketball championship. Hirffls Yesterday's game was full of good playing by the players of both teams and it was packed with thrills from the start until Hall, of Beta Theta Pi, rang up two points with about two sec onds of play remaining in the game. Beta Theta Pi started off fast and at the end of the first half held a 10 point lead, the score being 20 to 10. In the second half they continued their bril liant performance and with but five minutes left to play were leading by the score of 32 to 16. Then Aycock put on one of its well-known rallies but they were stopped 9 points short of tying the score. After this the Betas rang up two more field goals to keep the game on ice. Favored teams were relegated to the ash heap in the 17th annual Southern Confer ence basketball tournament as the close-score semi-finals end ed here tonight with Clemson and Duke victorious. The larg est crowd ever to witness the games went wild when Clemson toppled a tired outfit from Washington and Lee 38-33 in the first part of the program. Unpredictable Duke then com mandeered the courts to turn back the University of Mary land 35-32. The two winning teams will fight for the title to morrow night at 8 o'clock. One Banks McFadden and Clemson, Inc., tripped the light fantastic here tonight while the Generals of Washington and Lee moved out of the confer ence tournament to the tune of a funeral march in 38-33 time Gaining an early lead, the Ti gers from South Carolina took the favored Virginians for a joy-ride, using the defensive services of McFadden to de emphasize Spessard's scoring ability. . In the first half it was Clem son all the way, and goal after goal rang true for them as tha Generals tried vainly to recover the poise and teamwork used so successfully against the Univer sity of North Carolina yester day. Spessard, the lad who uses, a basket rim for a halo, found, himself completely surrounded by the shorter but everywhere-at-once McFadden. The Clem son center clung as close to Spessard as did the latter uni form, and still found time to sink one-handed shots with accurate : frequency.
