Tech Today Will Remain For Southeastern AAU's To Be Staged In Atlanta Tomorrow Carolina's record-shattering Blue Dolphins left last night for Atlanta, Georgia, where they will engage Georgia Tech in a dual meet this afternoon. This will be the second time that the Blue Dolphins have met Georgia Tech in a dual meet, the score of the first one having been 60-15 in Carolina's favor. The Domhins will rpmain in Atlanta to compete in the Southeastern AAU Invitation Meet to be held Saturday after noon and evening. The prelimi naries will take place in the af ternoon and the finals in the evening. This will be much the same type of meet as was held here in the Bowman Gray Me morial pool last week, in which the Dolphins put on a fine show to garner 40 points. An addi tional team, however, represent ing the Jacksonville Naval Air Station will be competing and Coach Casey says that they have little information on the strength of the sailors. The Dolphins will again be without the services of Co-captain Ben Ward, but are certain to be the team to beat in At lanta. Football Team Will Continue Drills Next Week Workouts are continuing for the 90-odd candidates who re ported for winter football drills last Monday, and the first week will come to a close with drills this afternoon. Most of the work has been on fundamentals of the game and conditioning work, with stress on kicking, passing, running and blocking. The practice sessions are to last for three more weeks, when a layoff will be in effect until the first week in April.. Chi Psi Visitors Visiting the Chi Psi Lodge this week are Brothers Paul Nord and Jun Gugert, both of whom are former lieutenants junior grade in the Navy and are plan ning to return to school next quarter. Both Hold and Gugert left the campus in the spring of 1942. NOW PLAYING ITS THAT L0VH1' IADY OF 111 'nth sUB.,Vts 1 Local Ringmen Go To N. Y. To Meet Army Bos. In fact, so many mail order re quests have been received that officials are advising those who have not already written for tickets to hold off doing so, at least for the time being. J. L. Vonglahn, director of ithletics at North Carolina State, says that it is doubtful that enough tickets are available to fill the requests already received. Girls' Cage Team Takes Dunn Stars By Score Of 34-23 The Carolina girls' basketball team opened its season last night with "a sparkling 34-23 victory over the Dunn All-Stars. Caro lina started off slowly, not real ly starting to hit the 'basket un til well into the second quarter. The game was marked by rough, fast play, and Carolina used few substitutes until they were well in the lead. High scorer for Carolina was Joyce Fowler who dropped in 17 points, using a hook shot. Al though she was missing the bas ket regularly in the first half, she got her eye in the second frame and contributed largely to the victory. High score for the Dunn All-Stars was Johnson with a total of 11. . Dunn collected the most fouls, Naylor of that team being dis qualified for committing four personal fouls. Viola Hoyle played a brilliant game as a forward for Carolina, blocking several passes, unusual for that position in a girls' bas ketball game. Carolina took advantage of a recent ruling to dribble the ball out from the sidelines after it had gone out of bounds. Players for Carolina "were :x Joyce Fowler, Ida Prince, Vio la Hoyle, Dot Janssen, Meadie Montgomery, Ann Farr, Nancy Helm, Marilyn Carmichael, Lou Hull, Grace Towery, Jane Heil ner and Mary Nichol. Coach Quinlan's men took a decisive 24-8 victory in the first encounter, but the absence of both Art Bluthenthal and Bill Kemp from the Carolina line-up is expected to weaken the team in the upper weights. In trying to fill these vacan-f- cies, Quinlan has done some shifting of weights, and the line up will find Demote Rosemann in the 145 pound slot and once- beaten Dick Seaver shifted to 155. Archie Thompson, who wrestled 165 against Appalach ian, will wrestle that same weight tonight, and Bill Crutch field, a newcomer to the team, fills the 175 pound berth. In the lower weights, Irwin Smallwood, who has been look ing consistently better in prac tice this week, has jumped into the 121 pound slot, and Dick Johnston will be holding down his regular position at 128. Tommy Hearn, undefeated 136 pounder, has been nursing a rib injury during the week, but will be ready to go in an at tempt to keep his slate clean. Big Al Crawford will be seek ing his fourth pin in as many starts; as yet no one has lasted much more than a minute with the former AAU champ. The matmen boast a record of two wins and a single defeat as they go into tonight's match, their only setback being at the hands of Duke by a 19-11 count. Following tonight's meet, Coach Quinlan's crew will meet Duke Tuesday night at Durham, and will close the season in Atlanta on the 16th in a meet with Geor gia Tech. The Tar Heels defeated the Old Liners decisively here a few weeks ago, but the Maryland five has since knocked off Duke's high-flying Blue Devils. After the skirmish tonight, the Phants will move on to An napolis, where they are sched uled to tangle with unbeaten Navy tomorrow afternoon at 2 :30 o'clock. The Navy tilt com bined with the Maryland en counter constitutes probably Carolina's hardest weekend since they took on NYU and St. Joseph during Christmas, for both these clubs were victorious against Duke two weeks ago. Starting for Coach Ben Car- nevale tonight will be the same five that has seen the opening toss for the past several games, With Johnny Dillon and Bob Paxton at forwards, Bones Mc- Kinney at center, and Jim Jor dan and Jim White at guards. Held in close reserve will be Don Anderson, Tee Thome and Red Hughes, with Jim Hay worth and Roger Scholbe com ing next in line for action. For Maryland tonight Gleas- i 1 1 ii. . i ner, who starrea wun tne ter rific Pre-Flight quint here last season, will be leading the field, and the Liners are rated as hav ing a good chance to upset the Phantoms. Navy, by virtue of its un beaten record and recent victory over Penn State's potent five, will hold the favored position over the Tar Heels tomorrow afternoon. 2 Lewis vs. ROTC 2nd Com pany; Court No. 3 Ringers vs. Marine No. 1 ; Court No. 4 St. Anthony vs. Zeta Psi.
