The Legion of Decency went on record last week by saying Bene dict Borgeaus' "Diary "of a Chambermaid" and Twentieth Century-Fox's "Shock" were ev erything a picture should not be. Long controlled by the Catholic Church, the Legion, of Decency said it did not believe the Cath olic theme was being used too much at present in the cinema. Other highly thought of groups are fed up with it. Leo McCarey, director of "Going My Way" and "Bells of St. Mary's" said he was tired of being thought of as lov er of religious pictures. Mc Carey said, "it will be a long, long time before I make another picture with a Catholic theme, if I ever do." . . . Some critics can't see her at all, but she may well be come Metro's answer to Greta Garbo. Let's watch her during the next five years you can bet she'll go places ! . . Gene Kelly's first picture after his very brief stay in the Navy-will be "The Pirate" co-starring Judy Gar land. Judy certainly can't sing, but Gene does some very attrac tive dancing.
