Pelican Whiteheart Fans Thirteen While Allowing Five Hits Tar Heels Register Single Tallies In Third and Fifth Innings to Win By Bob Goldwaler Behind the masterful five-hit hurling of Monk Whiteheart, the Carolina baseballers turned in a 2-0 whitewash performance over Maryland yesterday on Emerson Field to register their second Southern Conference victory. Whiteheart pitched superbly- all the way, fanning 13 batters, including at least one every inn ing, and allowed no walks. Six consecutive strikeouts, two to end the fourth, three more on ten pitched balls in the fifth, and one to start the sixth, were the highlight of his mound per formance. The five singles that the Terrapins garnered produced their only base-runners of the contest, with none of these ad vancing beyond second. Carolina Scores The Tar Heels themselves were not too potent at the plate, picking up but six singles of which only one figured in the scoring. They scored single tal lies in the third and fifth frames, both markers originating from miscues by third - baseman Cesky. George Thompson led off in the third by reaching second on the third-sacker's wild heave over first, advanced to third on "Rip" Ryan's long fly to left, and scored on Charlie Cole's safety to center. In the fifth, Rollo Frazier became a base runner on Cesky's second error, was pushed along by a neat sac rifice by Whiteheart, and came home on a passed ball and wild pitch. The Hearnmen threatened twice thereafter. Two walks with one. out in the sixth had! signs of promise but a twin-kill- 1 a 1 1 T J.
