Pi Lams Score In Mural Tilts Zeta Psi and DKE Triumph in Tennis Intramural softball favorites rolled on yesterday as the high- riding Phi Gamma Deltas and the Marines extended their win ning streaks with impressive triumphs. The Phi Gams had the more serious opposition but showed top form as they knocked the Sigma Chi's from the ranks of the unbeaten in a 11-2 victory. The Marines; taking their seventh win, were also in top shape as they stomped ROTC 2nd Co. 15-0. , In other games Old East won over ROTC 1st Co. 4-1, as Arn- siz fanned 10; Pi Lambda Phi outslugged KA No. 2 14-10 ; and Whitehead nosed out Alexander, 5-4. Elsewhere, Phi Delt No. 2 topped Chi Phi, 10-5 and Stacy pasted Graham, 21-7. On the clay courts, the Zeta Psi's won their second match as they came from behind to win the doubles and edge ATO, 3-2. The DKE netters had little trouble stopping Delta Sig, 4-1. Tar Babies Lose, 11-7; To Play Duke Jayvees One big inning proved the downfall of the Carolina jayvee outfit yesterday as the Siler City semi-pro nine scored eight runs in one frame to down the Tar Babies, 11-7. The jayvees face a busy slate the rest of this week. Tomorrow they oppose the Duke "B" teamy Friday they play a return con test -with Siler City, and Satur day they meet Burlington Mills. Trackmen Prepare For Penn Relays With Squad Meet Carolina's cindermen will hold an inter-squad meet on Fetzer field this afternoon, in prepara tion for the Penn Relays Satur day. Field events for the meet will begin at 3:15 p. m., with the running events getting un der way at 4 o'clock. Coach Dale Ranson is holding the meet in an effort to pick the men he will send to compete in the Penn Relay events. The Tar Heel trackmen have shown good form this season in sweeping their first two meets by large margins. Key men who are expected to lead the Tar Heels in the meet today are Chunk Simmons, who has amassed a total of 32 points in the two meets, and Laddie Terrell, who has shown out standing form in the dashes. Others include Charlie Donnell, Charles Tietjen, and Mark Burn- ham in the 440, 880, and the mile run, respectively. Championship. The Red Terrors will visit the Hill on Thursday to play off the game that was rain ed out last week. Friday will give the Tar Heels a breathing spell prior to Saturday's clash with Duke here. The games with State and the strong Blue Devil aggregation will show definitely just how far Coach Bunn Hearn's club will go in Big Four and Southern conference play. Pitching Staff The important games follow ing one another so closely will present Coach Hearn with a problem in pitching manipula tion. Monk Whiteheart, who ap plied the whitewash to Maryland Saturday, Hamp Coleman, and Vin DiLorenzo have been the big guns firing from the Carolina mound this spring and past per formances have shown that the Tar Heels' main strength lies in their competent corps of hurlers. Although numerous players have seen action at many posi tions for Carolina this year, Hearn seems to have worked out a iairiy-dennite starting com bination. Cleet Cleetwood, Char lie Cole, and Harry Beason will probably start in the outfield to day, with John Gregory, George Thompson, Fred Ryan, and Bob Warren handling the ball around the infield. John Hearn at third and Bo Hackney at short are providing the stiffest competi tion for infield berths. Cole, who got two of Carolina's six hits against Maryland, seems to be a fixture in the centerfield berth.
