Music Majors Initiated By Honor Group 18 Students Join Sigma Alpha Iota Eighteen music majors in the University have just been ini tiated as charter members into Sigma Alpha Iota, national women's musical fraternity. The Carolina chapter will be known as the Iota Tau chapter. Following the initiation cere monies there was a formal ban quet at the Carolina Inn for the group, faculty members and guests. Officers elected are Dolly Don elson, Danville, Va., president; Gwen Hughes, Tabor City, vice president; Jean Youngblood, Concord, secretary; Valeska Haydon, Chapel Hill, treasurer, and Nina Thomas, Tampa, Fla., chaplain. Loan Amendment Rejected by Senate Washington, May 8 The Se nate has rejected an amend ment to the loan to Britian which called for outright United States possession of Atlantic bases now leased from England. The vote on the so-called McFarland amendment was 45 to 40. Washington, May 8 A tech- Inical point intended to throw the proposed three and three quarter billion dollar British loan out of the Senate was raised today. Senator Edwin Johnson, of Colorado, argued that the loan authorization bill is a revenue-raising measure, and therefore should originate in the House of Representatives un der the terms of the constitu tion. Student Editors Get Certificates At Law Banquet Four North Carolina student editors of the North Carolina Law Review were awarded cer tificates for the current year's work at the annual banquet of the University Law School As sociation here recently. The following student editors received certificates: Robert I. Lipton, of Wilmington, editor-in-chief; and the following asso ciate editors: Charles F. Coira, Jr., C. F. Lee, of Wilson and Wallace C. University Libraries Receive Braille Books Austin, Texas (ACP) Law books in braille and three cen turies of English law can be found in the University of Texas Law Library. The library is the second largest in the South with nearly 65,000 books, according to Miss Helen Har grave, librarian. Duke Univer sity has the largest law library in the South.
