The secret ceremony took place before dawn Wednesday
morning. The Valkyries is an honorary organization for
outstanding coeds. Only two per cent of the coeds of the
student body may belong to it.

Martha Pugh, a graduate student,
of Morgantown, West Virginia.
They plan to be married in Aug
ust and Sam will enter Yale
Divinity School this fall.
The two couples were recently

Chi Fraternity held its first
annual Dream GirJ dance in
the ballroom of the Carolina
Inn last night, and Shirle
Winfree of Raleigh was crown
ed Dream Girl. Cecil Perry
also of Raleigh, was her date.
Sponsors for the dance were

Don Maynard, president of the
chapter; Theo Braxton, Graham
with Clarence Pickard; Mary B
Small, Weeksville, with Dav.
Seitz; Eleanor Senter, Raleigh

Al Spivey, retiring president.

At the banquet preceding the

vice Award, highest honor the

Three Chi Psi alumni, now
members 'of the University facul
ty, are named in the current edi
tion of "Who's Who irt America."
The three all formers of Beta
chapter of Chi Psi which was
located at the University of
South Carolina until it went
dormant several years ago, hold
key positions on the local facul
ty. Those honored are Dr. W. C.
Coker, Kenan professor Emeritus
of Botany, Dr. R. E. Coker, pro
fessor Emeritus of Zoology, and
Dr. George C. Taylor of the De
partment of English.
The Coker Arboretum, a Chap
el Hill landmark, was founded
by and named "for Dr. W. C.
Coker. while Dr. R. E. Coker was
this year's winner of the O. Max
Gardner award for outsxanuius
service to the state and Univer
sity. Taylor, a long-time member
of the University teaching staff,
is recognized as one of the na
tion's foremost authorities' in his
field.
