Spring Shows In Vans Reveal Low Necklines PARIS, Feb. 2 (UP) Daring necklines some of them plung ing almost to the waist were featured today as Paxus designers unveiled their high fashion col lections for 1951. - - The spring previews, which opened today, and will continue for a. week, featured feminity, yo'uthf illness and abandon. Necklines were slit boldly down from the throat. Skirts continued the retreat from the exaggerated "new look" of a few years ago and the pencil-slim hobble. Day dresses for 1951 were 14 inches from the floor, billowing to bouf fant floor-lengths for evening wear. ' Maggie Rouff and Patuin, Jac ques Fath and Jean Oesses have shown their" collections. Next week Balmain, Balenciaga and Piguet, Christian Dior and Schiaparelli will show. Spain and. Mexico inspired triple-tiered ruffles and "fan dango dresses" from the costumes of gypsy dancers in exotic spice colors to saffron, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and chili pepper. , . Carven followed Iberian sug gestions in his collection, calling his creation the ."fan line" from a Mexican fan. His theme was developed in "progressive full ness" with panels, godets and fan He also featured belted corsair jackets with collars high in backj and lapels standing open deep down the -front. A touch of springtime was evi dent in Cfj en's choice of white. There was white in the inner sheath of double lapels, white on pockets and cuffs and in torero tricky embroidery. Evening dresses were strapless or draped over one shoulder with progressively flaring skirts. , 9 : " Choral; Group Meets Feb. 12 Postponement of the; first re-'ie-u-sal of the ClWpe! She hung her head and said in her nicest ; tone, "If you don't mind, please try to find some thing that will be of educational value -to the average Carolina student "and cut out this racey stuff that's been filling the back page of our paper and causing too much shaded back talk." She suggested several articles that might prove interesting. The one that appealed to me most was the suggestion that I write on lit erature. Maybe she didn't exact ly say literature but I distinctly heard her say something about fine arts. It was quite, evident that she didnt understand where my interpretation of literature hung on my ladder of education. . My biggest problem was to de cide whether to write on the- sub ject of books (like Katie Wind sor's "Forever ATTIT")',' , Or to tell the public about modern art I have some. fascinating etchings in my' room) or last but not least, to draw an imaginative picture of the language used by Carolina students. -;; I have not read Miss Windsor's novel. That took-care of that. I have long since learned that Car olina students do not use a. defi nite language or at least one that would be appropriate to be print ed. Having had a course in Mod ern Coed Art, I felt better qual ified to write on this topic, limit ing my research to the quarters of the coed and what modern art might be found there. It's astounding what a coed's room will reveal. My first -appointment to gather information was at the room of a coed two doors down. The first object that caught my attention was a brass contraption on her desk filled with green plants. It wasn't the ordinary flower pot but one al most filled with green plants. . It wasn't the ordinary flower pot but one almost completely covered with a chartreuse lamp shade.I asked her the origin of the object, and after being told its purpose, concluded that here Episcopalians List Activities Here is the schedule of acti vi ties at! the Chapel of the Cross for the week beginning Sunday: Sunday: 8 o'clock Holy Com munion; 11 o'clock Holy Com munion and Sermon; 6 o'clock -The Rev. The second den of iniquity was composed of four walls covered in the brightest conglomeration of collected junk I fcad ever seen. Dead floW;ersi tie clasps, match folders abominable. The most enjoyable trip of the day was one to the room of a coed who has a vast collection of bot tles mpty. It-seems that every time there is a party worth re membering, she brings home an empty bottle or two to prove it to her friends. Behind every bot tle, there is a story, and behind every story y.there is a man, and behind every . man there is, at present, ,a.t beautiful example of that 1 Carolina .'"language which I previously refused to mention.
