East Carolinian Is Winner In Auditions Paul Arnold Hickfang of the music faculty at East Carolina Col lege, Greenville, is recent winner of the North Carolina Symphony Society's annual auditions. He will appear as guest soloist with the orchestra during its coming season. Otis Lambert Jr. of Fayetteville. was selected as alternate. Hickfang, a bass baritone, and Lambert, a basso cantante, were chosen from a field of 11 musicians from North Carolina and Virginia, recording to Dr. 'Benjamin Swalin, director of the N. C. Symphony. Judges for the auditions held in Greensboro were Phillip Morgan ar.d George Dickieson of the Wom rn's College School of Music; Fletcher Moorc. and John West moreland of the Elon College Mu sic Department; Richard Cox of the Department of Music at High Point College; Paul Peterson of thct Salem College Music Depart ment Winston-Salem; and Gene Strassler of the UNC Music De partment.
