"But those belts weren't fast ened," said Col. Charles Speed, "and there is sorrow in seven more households as the re sult." He added that high speed, run - off - the - road accidents took 11 lives. Failure to yield the right-of-way was involved in five fatalities. "It was a bitter and bloody weekend," Speed stated. 'Tast experience has taught us that December is perhaps the deadliest month of the year on our streets and highways. And from the weekend death toll, it seems that the present Decem ber may be' no exception to that tragic rule."
