It will be a year of in
novation for the UNC swim
ming team. Coach Pat Earey
revealed schedule and training
changes at the team's first
meeting Thursday night.
The schedule changes make
the 1967-68 season good for the
home fans. All second
semester meets will be held at
the Bowman Gray Pool at
Woollen Gym. These will in
clude contests against
Michigan State, Florida,
Florida State, and N . C .
State.
The climax of the ACC
season, the ACC Swimming
Championships, will be held at
Carolina Feb. 29, March 1 and
2.
The Dolphins, who placed
ninth in the nation and had six
swimmers in the Ail-American
rankings last year, appear
stronger for the new season.
It was that ninth-place finish
at the NCAA championships
last year that brought about
another of Earey's innovations
in training.
"We will try to reach our
peak for the championship
meets at the end of the year,"
Earey said.
The team will continue hard
training throughout the dual
meets, resting for none of
them, and build to top strength
for the ACC and NCAA cham
pionships. When this training strategy
was partially employed last
year, it resulted in he
Dolphins defeating all three
teams at the national cham
pionships that had defeated
UNC during their 9-3 dual meet
season.

an easy 21-0 victory over East
Westchester last week.
It will be throwing a strong
single wing offense at Vanilla

Flavor, a senior who gained
127 yards against the Rebels.
The line is bolstered by guard
Lucius Lombardi, the grandson
of Green Bay Packer coach
Vince Lombardi.
The Crackers' answer to this'
twosome is fullback Jake
Jernigan, who gained 175 yards
and scored two touchdowns
last week, and tackle Hugo
Harvey, a 287 pounder.
Vanilla Wafer was especially

in the NCAA Championships
their senior year, they must
compete on a freshman team

more dramatic results at the

"We're going to aim only for

said.
The dual meet season will be
made even harder for the
Dolphins with Earey's plan for
the freshman team. Last

backfield allowed 180 yards

the Cadets. His top receiver,
only a sophomore, is Zippy Si

and I mean both his running
and passing, we should do all
right," said Redgrave.
Defensive standouts for the
Crackers last - week were
linebacker Rake Racker and
end Jim Renn.
VW's offensive backfield is
rounded out by halfbacks
Roland Ortmayer and Jim
