"Up, Up And Away'9 With The Kappa Alpha Theta Kites
Kappa Alpha Thela provided entertainment for
the campus Friday as their pledges went
through their initiation rites in Polk Place.
After a while it seemed that everyone wanted
to get into the act, but the girls would have
none of it. It seems they were told to go fly a
kite as yesterday and then found they were to
be supervised. However, once the coeds got into
the mood they thoroughly enjoyed it. As
witness above. On the left Jeannie Blair and
Cathy Caswell gave into the skies trying to
discern the tiny specks in the upper at
mosphere. Next, Kay Ogburn rescues hers
from a kiteeating tree, as an unidentified coed
sends hers up ino the heights. Also, the Thetas
gang up to inspect their apparatus and TUAAn
Castle flies hers with great skill and daring

The purpose of the comic en

They may cause a little levity,

Interviews To Start
For CPU Positions
The Carolina Political Union,
a group designed to discuss
current political issues, will
hold interviews next week to
fill , four openings in their
membership.
The CPU began in 1934 under
the late professor E.J.
Woodhouse. His political
science class was concerned
with the changes in the
American society b r o u g h t
about by .the New Deal of
President Franklin D.
Roosevelt and the rising crisis
in Europe during the 1930's.
The . group invited govern
ment officials to discuss the
political issues of the day with
students. Until 1954, when in
terest died and the Union
disbanded, the group hosted
such figures as President
Roosevelt Senators Gerald
Nye and Claude Pepper, House
Speaker Sam Rayburn and
Congressman John F. Ken

German finals a few years
ago, he thought it would be a
good idea to relieve some of
the customary exam tension.
When the students Who were
about to take the exams put on
their eaphones, they hear
French Christmas carols and
songs by Marlene Dietrich.
They laughed and went
on to take the exams, con
siderably less nervous than
when they entered the room.
Grieve recalled another in
cident that occurred when
some Peace Corps trainees ,
worked in the lab during the
summer. They were learning
the languages of the countries
-to which they would be sent to
work. Some had the head
phones on for six or seven con-'
seteutive hours.
Comic relief was needed, so
Grive decided to do something
about the situation. He locked

Can you study-read at
1000 words par minute?
If not,
you need Reading Dynamics.
The average Reading Dynamics graduate reads 4.7 times
faster than before . . . and he knows how to study.
You probably aren't even aware of your
own reading speed. Just for kicks, time
yourself on this ad. If you're an average
reader, you'll probably be reading at be
tween 250 and 400 words a minute. But
when you study-read, say in philosophy
or history, that speed goes down to
between 150 and 300 words a minute.
You need Reading Dynamics. Anyone
who has to read as much as you dp
needs Reading Dynamics. It's one sure
way to make your college years count.
Learning to read an average of 4.7 times
faster is only the beginning. Reading
Dynamics stresses comprehension as
much as speed. After ten weeks, you'll
read at a much higher rate of speed,
and understand more of what you read.
Perhaps most important to you, Reading
Dynamics will show you how to study.
You'll learn the best way to preview a
book, to summarize, and to recall what
you've read.
If you read faster, read more, under
stand more, and remember more, it
stands to reason that you'll be able to
make better grades. But there's a side
benefit of Reading Dynamics you may
not have even considered. (Sshhh
don't tell your folks or even your best
friend.) You'll have more time for foot
ball, music, parties whatever your
favorite extracurricular activity is.
Here's what Gary Hemric, a junior at
Davidson College and a varsity football
player, has to say about the course.
(Incidentally, Gary now reads at about
5,000 words per minute.)
"The techniques I learned in Reading
Dynamics have helped me greatly in my
college studies. The study and review
methods introduced in the course are

valuable assets to me in the many hours
of reading and study that are so neces
sary in college.- And with my increased
reading rate, I have enough free time to
participate in college football, as well
as take a full schedule of courses."
We are so convinced that Evelyn-Wood's
Reading Dynamics can benefit you, we
offer this money-back guarantee:
We guarantee to increase the reading
efficiency of each student AT LEAST 3
times with good comprehension. We will
refund the entire tuition to any fully
paid student who, after completing
minimum class and study requirements,
does not at least triple his reading effi
ciency as measured by our standardized
tests.
If you'd like to have the edge on grades,
scholarships, knowledge even fun
you owe it to yourself to take a course
in Reading Dynamics. What are you
waiting for? There's no better time than
now for Reading Dynamics. After all,
think of the time you've already lost,
the books you've missed, the A's that
have eluded you, the movies you passed
up to study.- Let Reading Dynamics
change ail that, this semester. You'll
benefit the rest of the year . . . and the
rest of your life.
Think we're putting you on? Attend the
free Reading Dynamics demonstrations
