Thirty theatre groups will present plays in the Festival. These productions were selected from 65 productions in the four district festivals held in Elizabeth City, Charlotte, Buies Creek and Cullowhee. Only productions which received a distinguished rating at the district festivals are invited to the state festival. The three ratings are "distinguished," "excellent" and "creditable." Hosted by the Bureau of VOTE for EDITOR Community Drama of the UN'C Extension Division and the Carolina Playmakers, the annual Carolina Dramatic Association Festival will award certificates for outstanding play productions, play writing, acting and theatre arts and crafts. Nineteen original plays were submitted this year, according to Clark M. Rogers, executive secretary of the Carolina Dramatic Association. A committee of reading judges selected six for presentation at the state festival. Groups participating in this year's festival will come from Hendersonville, Greensboro, Skyland, Chapel Hill, Ashevelle, Durham, Washington, Cary, Kinston, Charlotte, Elizabeth City, Morehead City, Rocky Mount, Pineville, Reidsville, Murfreesboro and Raleigh. President of the Carolina Dramatic Association is Oran K. Perry of Grainger High School in Kinston; vice president is Eleanor Ponder of T.C. Roberson High School in Skyland. More than nine different awards will be presented at the Awards ceremony at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, in the Playmakers Theatre. Outstanding among these are the Frederick H. Koch Award and the John W. Parker Award. The Koch Award is presented to a North Carolinian who has rendered distinguished service in theatre arts of a period of years. Tie Parker Award goes to a current member of the Association who has given outstanding service in recent years. A Statement Dy Steve Enfield & Dennis Denfield Monday morning a statement of our platform and an endorsement sheet was circulated throughout campus. Several of the persons whose names were included on this list had indicated to us at one time or another that they supported our candidacy. However, we wish to make it abundantly clear that no person on the sheet actually signed it. We wish to re tract fully ALL names on the list and apologize with all sincerity to any per sons who may have been offended by a public endorsement of our candidacy. We wish to offer a special apology to Miss Margot Fletcher for using her name publicly without her permission. Our use of these names was IRRESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM. The names of the Pub Board members were not included with any intent to do harm, politically or other wise, rather to inform voters of the people responsible for endorsing DTH candidates. 1 3 .ZID j QV " v - ...... r " ; I ; : " "LJ1"""' " " .. &r , Police officer searches for bomb Dey Hall Classes Halted In Monday Bomb Scare Classes in Dey Hall were called off for one hour Monday after a bomb scare in the building.
