The Tar Heels, posting victories in six of the last seven weight classifications, fought back from the short end of a lopsided 20-3 count in posting their first win of the young season. Washington and Lee spurted to a quick 5-0 lead as Mike Wilford pinned UNC sophomore Mike Barringer in the 1 1 8-pound class, and then went ahead by a seemingly insurmountable 15-0 margin as Carolina forfeited in the 126-lb and UNC's Favorite Drink Prices Super 12 Oz. Dennis Wuycik piloted Carolina's Tar Heels past floundering South Carolina and Duke and earned "player of the week" honors for the second time this season. The 6-5 junior, averaging 20.5 points a game and hitting 63 per cent of his shots, 134-lb divisions to the visitor's David Keller and John Hankins. Dicky Rumley started the Tar Heel comeback by putting three points on the scoreboard, as he manhandled Washington and Lee's Bill Wet to the tune of 19-0. UNC'S Jack Ross then fell to the visitor's Bill Melton to drop Carolina behind at 20-3, but the Tar Heels rallied and swept the next five weight classifications. After UNC team captain Luther Gartrell pasted Jim Steiff 11-2 in the 158-lb class, Carolina freshman Gary Purcell pinned Bruce Hankins with 4:32 gone in their 1 67-lb bout to close the gap to nine at 20-11. Sophomores Ricky Weisner (177) and Todd Parrish (190) then came through with 9-3 and 9-6 decisions over Washington and Lee's Dean Copenhaver and Mark Wrisley to put the Tar Heels , i i in u. u ..1.1 iii. ., i i.juu.m.i ,. - n.,wlu , -i -m CONVENIENT COMFORTABLE COMPLETE 1ST .- - went to the bench early in the Duke contest with a two-stitch cut over his left eye, "but came back to perform his usual heroics. The Cavaliers held the b3ii for two minutes after Kevin Joyce was called for travelling, then Parkhill hit the shot that within three points at 20-17, thus setting the stage for Sara's decisive triumph. Sara needed at least a decision over Washington and Lee's Fulchor to give Carolina three points and a 20-20 tie, but the Arlington, Va., neatly pinned Fulchor with only 4:12 gone in their heavyweight bout to hand coach Sam Barnes' Tar Heels the 22-20 win.
