Senator Sara Ervin are. among several notables scheduled to speak at a two-day journalism conference beginning April 24 at the Carolina Inn. The talks will be given at the Sigma Delta Chi Region II spring conference. At the opening session, Kuralt of CBS News will speak about his travels for the "On the R.oad" television segments. Use Kuralt, a Charlotte native, is a former editor of The Daily Tar Heel. He will be introduced by Consolidated University President William C. Friday. Two panel discussions will be held Saturday afternoon. The first, moderated by Sam Yette of Newsweek Washington Bureau, will deal with "Advocacy; Journalism" and will include discussions of all types of underground newspapers. Panelists will include a black underground editor from Richmond, Va., a representative of the Underground News Service from New York, an "establishment type journalist from Washington and Miss Shirley Bach, a UNC journalism graduate student. Later that day there will be a panel discussion of 'The Student Press in the 70's." The bikes may be rented at the ECOS office, suite B at the Carolina Union, seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rates are 50 cents an hour and $2 per day. "We feel the market is good for bicycles," Charles Jeffries, spokesman for ECOS, said Wednesday. "It's a nice way to relax and get exercise. Warm weather makes it even more enjoyable." Douglas B. Cornell of the Associated Press will moderate the discussion. Sunday lunch will be the final session of the conference. Robert Chandler, an Oregon newspaper publisher and national president of Sigma Delta Chi, will speak. " The conference is open to the public. A registration fee of $12.50 will be charged for faculty and students. This fee includes Saturday lunch and dinner and Sunday lunch. Those attending the conference must be registered for the entire event. Formal registration will be from 11 to 12:30 on the morning of April 24, in the Carolina Inn lobby. Franklin St., has scheduled a variety of services for the Easter observance this weekend. The Rev. Peter James Lee, rector of the parish, announced the traditional Good Friday service, to begin at noon, will consist of six 30-minute units, each with a different speaker. Dixon, Jr., UNC religion professor, at 2 p.m. The final speaker, scheduled for 2:30 p.m., will be the Rev. Peter James, , parish rector. An Easter Vigil, beginning at 10 p.m., will be held Saturday. This service will include scripture reading, lighting of the paschal candle, holy baptism and the Easter Eucharist, a religious ceremony. The Rev; Lex S. Mathews, UNC Episcopal chaplain, will preach at the service and the Rev. Lee will celebrate the liturgy. On Easter Sunday there will be three services. Holy Communion will be celebrated at 7:30 a.m. in the old chapel. Children will present Lenten offerings of flowers in the 9:30 service.
