And, every Wednesday from 11:30-2:00, the Battle House Buffet thrives. Sponsored by the Campus Chaplains' Association, the Buffet is a noon-time meal prepared and served by the campus chaplains on a rotating basis. The place is Battle House, the Baptist Student Center, tucked behind Kenan Dorm on Battle Lane. At the beginning of the, fall semester, the campus chaplains, led by Bob Clyde, former Baptist chaplain, Lex Matthews, Episcopal chaplain, and Norman Gustavason, Y Director, discussed the need for a place for food and conversation. "With the passing of Lenoir Cafeteria, the campus lost an informal place for students and faculty to talk over lunch," said Gustavason. "Thus, the campus is now more fragmented . . . It's harder to get together." Recognizing the void left by the closing of the cafeteria, the campus chaplains set about to provide an informal eating place, a place where faculty and students in the University srsl It &IXJJL JOL'J PLAVIOO 1:45-3:30-5:15-7:00-9:00 ... "Besides, it's a good chance to meet someone you know that you don't usually see in the daily round." Not only does Hall like the food, but the Buffet helps him in his work by providing more chance to share and cooperate with the other chaplains. "Furthermore," John Meeker, Morehead Residence College Chaplain pointed out, "Battle House is a good place to meet and eat, and then to go upstairs and work on committee projects. He and his colleagues planned to do just that after lunch. "Not many people on a Ledge" by William J. Brooke, and "Damnation" by Ernie Barham. "My Terra Cotta Baby" by Tom Smith is the comic encounter of a small town college professor, a naive student, and a blatant homosexual in the professor's bizarre living room. "Man on a Ledge" by William J. Brooke deals with the comic reactions of a group of people to a man who has climbed out on a ledge over a busy city street. Ernie Barham's play "Damnation" is a mood play set in a prison cell as the prisoners await a decision from the parole board.. The playwrights are all graduate students in the UNC Dramatic Art Department. Tom Smith is a former schoolteacher from High Point. William J. UNC's Jazz Lab Band and its director, John Harding, will host seven big jazz bands from East Carolina University, Duke University, Wake Forest University, Elon College, Campbell College, N.C. Central University and Winston Salem State College. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited. 4We want to bring out into the open this outstanding jazz talent and the great music being written which the public doesn't often get a chance to hear," Harding said. Harding, a member of UNC's music department faculty, said the festival will give more exposure to North Carolina musicians and to show jazz fans what is happening throughout the state in the field of big band jazz. f, ,.,.,..,. , ,,. ,..U,mil.l.ll Jill I .
