The Datty Tar He-I .New boI lilt ion laws affect town Sivitchhoard needs Tuesday. September 7. 1971 Chape! HLU might soon lace substantial increases in its sewage treatment costs as a result of standards set by the Department of Air and Water Resources. Last week, the department announced the phosphorus discharges from the Haw and New Hope Rivers must be reduced by 90 per cent by 1973 to assure an acceptable quality of water in the New Hope Reservoir. According to Col. George E. Pickett, department director, each of the 53 significant polluters of waters feeding the reservoir, including Chapel Hill, "wiU CLOSING TMI OLD FROC! "We haven't received an. communication from tr.e department or. the standards, and I don't think they've been set," Peck said. "But it will cost us. We don't know how much yet, because we don't know what we will have to do to meet the standards." This year's town budget allots $4,000 for sewer plant operations Peck thinks the new process to remove phosphates will most likely involve chemical treatment, with only minor capital improvements to the town plant. usedthads I it 9 J 9 I L SOMETHING'S FISHY IN CARBORRO !! all you can eat flounder dinner 2.00 THEt ..FI$jjj$MP... 406 w.main street NOW PLAYING 1:45-3:33-5:18-7:03-8:48 'The MOST BEAUTIFUL MUSIC since "SOUND OF MUSIC" and the MOST BEAUTIFUL SCENERY EVER ON THE SCREEN" i with Florence Henderson OWDERGROUND THE INFLATION FIGHTERS it We Proclaim the Next 7 Days Consumer Lib.
