Neivs in brief
emslature in low sear
Newly elected legislators will be sworn
in at the Student Legislature (SL)
meeting tonight.
The only other business on the agenda
will be possible consideration of a
resolution by Reps. Gary Rendsburg and
Dave Gephart endorsing George
McGovern for president.
Until the new legislature's committees
are elected, SL can do very little business.
The committees cannot be elected
until all new legislators have been sworn
in. New legislators from districts where
elections have been challenged in the
stvJent .o'.ts cannot yet be sworn in.
The Student Supreme Court has enjoined
SL from swearing in challenged
legislators.
The resolution endorsing McGovern
will be brought up for immediate
consideration, without going through any
of the legislature's committees. The body
will have to vote, by a two thirds
majority, to consider the bill before the
bill itself is voted on.
Until the new committees are elected,
all business in the SL will have to be
handled in this way.
Committee elections have been
planned for next week, but the elections
can only be held then if all challenges to
SL races now before the Supreme Court
are thrown out, and the winners
confirmed.
If any challenges are successful,
committee elections will have to wait
until the SL elections are repeated and
the new winners sworn in.
SG presidents
A majority of North Carolina Student
Government presidents support
Democratic presidential candidate George
McGovern, according to a recent poll
taken by Robert Thompson, state student
coordinator for the McGovern campaign.
All 49 student presidents in the state
were questioned between October 16 and
27. Thirty-one, or 63 percent, supported
McGovern, while eight, or 16 percent,
chose President Ricahrd Nixon. Eight
presidents could not be reached or
refused to comment, and two were
undecided.
A further breakdown of poll results
showed that 10 leaders, or 63 percent, in
the 16 state-supported colleges and 21
leaders, or 64 percent, in the state's 33
private colleges support the Democratic
nominee.
Eight student leaders could not be
reached, and therefore were not included
in the poll, Thompson said.
The poll "clearly shows the broad
McGovern support of all campus leaders
ir North Carolina," he added.

Overseas work
With the semester almost over, many
students are beginning to turn their
thoughts toward Christmas holidays. The
most ambitious probably plan to look for
next summer's job over the holidays.
At tonight's meeting of the UNC
chapter of AIESEC (International
Association of Economics and
Management Students), guest speaker Bill
Hamlet will offer advice to those students
who will be looking for summer jobs
overseas. The meeting is at 7 p.m. in 107

students with jobs which combine
practical business experience with a
chance to travel abroad. Membership is
open to anyone who has one course in
business or economics.
Since applications for taking part in
the traineeship program are due in the
middle of December, tonight's
introductory meeting is mandatory for
anyone planning to apply.
Class evaluation
A course evaluation booklet compiled
last year will be distributed free at the
Student Union information desk after
noon today.
The booklet, compiled by the Zeta Beta
Tau fraternity and Pi Beta Phi sorority,
evaluates professors, their teaching
methods, courses and course requirements.

over the east coast entered the
tournament the largest entrance ever.
UNC entered several teams in the
pre-elimination rounds, but as the host
team, could not enter the elimination
rounds.
Teams who won the pre-elimination
rounds and advanced to the elimination
rounds were: Northwestern, Seton Hall,
Wake Forest, William and Mary, Cornell,

Men don aprons
Men will be wearing the aprons
Saturday night when local Democrats
sponsor a benefit supper for
McGovern-Shriver.
In an attempt to dispel the label of
"male chauvinist pigs," Orange County
Democratic men are invading the kitchen
to cook for a covered dish supper which
will be held at Chapel Hill's Community
Church from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Coordinators for the event open to
everyone are Richard Huddleston and
Rev. James Riddle.
Tickets will be $3 for adults, $2.25 for
students and $1.50 for children and may
be purchsed by calling McGovern-Shriver
headquarters at 942-8702 or by calling
Seth Effron at 933-6254.
According to the coordinators, the
supper is being held Saturday, "so no
matter how much ptomaine poisoning
occurs, the 250 expected people should
be able to make it to the polls on election
day.'
