Garbage ' venifow will Foimanini An overflow of garbage in the trash dumpsters at Big Fraternity Court will remain there. Town Manager Chester Kendzior said Monday. The fraternities have been placing the overflowing garbage in plastic trash bags and putting the bags next to the dumpsters. The front-loading trucks which collect the garbage twice weekly from the . three dumpsters at the fraternities are one-man operations, Kendzior said. The driver would have to get out of the truck and pick up the garbage himself which would cause scheduling difficulties, he said. Kendzior suggested that the fraternities buy another dumpster to accomodate the garbage overflow. He estimated that the dumpster would cost approximately $400, depending on its size. Another dumpster would take up parking space in the already-crowded area, Jerry Askew, vice-president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, said. "If we take the time to bag the garbage," Askew said, "the least the town could do is pick it up." Harold Harris, a Public Works Department employee, said that each truck has a certain number of containers to service . in an 8-hour period. "We must provide equal service for all," he said. Askew said he attended the Board of Aldermen meeting three weeks ago when the problem with unauthorized sludge at the county landfill was discussed. He said he felt the town could do something about the garbage overflow problem if it desired to. Carrboro Task Force organized Nineteen Carrboro citizens, including several UNC students, met Sunday night to organize a political coalition to bring what they hope will be a new direction to Carrboro politics. The group, the Carrboro Task Force, will organize a non-partisan voter registration campaign, present platforms for change in Carrboro, and possibly run candidates for PMon.-Wed.
