The Chancellor's Committee to
consider a curriculum in women's
studies will hold an open meeting
Tuesday in rooms 202-204 of the U nion.
Anyone interested in a women's
studies program at UNC is urged to
attend and voice his opinion about the
possible nature and goals of such a
curriculum.
Although there are currently several
academic courses regarding women, this
is the first attempt to possibly draw
them into an organized curriculum.
Interested persons unable to
participate may submit a letter with
ideas and comments to the committee
chairman. Dr. Richard L. Simpson,
chairman of the Department of
Sociology.
The committee hopes to make a
recommendation soon to the Faculty
Committee on the desirability of a
women's studies curriculum at UNC.
SSAC hears gripes
The Student Stores Advisory Committee
will hold a general gripe session open to all
students at 4:00 p.m. today in room 213 of
the Union.
Student committee member Bob Arundell
said Sunday the committee is particularly
looking for student opinions on beer sales on
campus, vending services and snack bar
operations. .
Present at the meeting will be James
Branch, director of auxiliary enterprises;
Tom Shetley, Student Stores manager.
James Cansler, associate dean of student
affairs; William Geer. director of student
aid- faculty members C.L. Kendall and
Junius Terrell; and student committee
members.

UNC student Kevin Peter McCarthy has
recently been awarded first place nationally
in the January General News Writing
Competition sponsored by the William
Randolph Hearst Foundation.
McCarthy, a senior journalism major
from Lancaster, Pa., was awarded the $900
first prize for his full-page interview article
entitled "Back Home with Senator Sam" in
the Jan. 30 edition of the Daily Tar Heel.
McCarthy's first place score has qualified
him for the National Writing Championship
to be held in San Francisco May II, 12. and
13. First place in that competition carries a
$1500 award. L TU
Currently a staff writer for the DlH.
McCarthy has previously served as DTH
managing editor and features editor. He has
also worked for two summers as an intern for
the Lancaster Sunday News, and will work
this summer for the Philadelphia Bulletin.
