Franklin St. 942-8718 Cinema On Campus "The Owl and the Pussycat" Barbra Streisand's best comedy role to date, helped by a wonderful screen rapport with co-star George Segal. (Union Free Flick at 1:00 and 8:30 p-m. today in the Great Hall.) "Elvira Madigan" A very pretty but slow moving Swedish film directed by Bo Widerberg. The story is based on a real-life tragic romance of the late 1880's between a young Swedish aristocrat and a beautiful tightrope dancer. The famous score is of course by Mozart (Union Free Flick at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Great Hall.) "Young Winston" Look-alike Simon Ward portrays British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in this epic film biography. Anne Bancroft and Robert Shaw have small roies as Sir Winston's parents. (Union Free Flick at 1:00 and 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Great Hall.) Chapel Hill "Freebie and the Bean" A tasteless film starring Alan Arkin and James Caan as two lawless lawmen. "Breakout" A quickie made escape package starring Charles Bronson which is receiving summertime saturation all around America. This time the escape job is done with the help of a helicopter. Robert Duvall co-stars. (Begins Friday at the Carolina) "Harry and Tonto" Art Carney won the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Harry, a warm old gent who lives with Tonto, his cat and companion. A nice film, lovingly directed by Paul Mazursky. (Varsity, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 p-m. today only. Admission $2.25.) "Deathrace 2000" A far out David Carradine stars in this science fiction film. Another cheaply made film that like "Breakout," is being released to small towns before the big city critics can get their hands on it. Admission $2.25.) 1 The Elger Sanction" This book, written by Trevanian, first introduced Jonathan Hemlock as an American James Bond. "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud" Michael Sarrazin plays Peter Proud, a man with a past. It seems that he has existed before as someone else. (Begins Friday at the Carolina.) "The Cross and the Switchblade" A religious film made four or five years ago, about a priest who goes to the ghetto to work with the underprivileged. It is being distributed by Billy Graham's organization. (Today only at the Northgate.) "The Prisoner of Second Avenue" Jack Lemmon and Anne Bancroft do what they can with a not so funny Neil Simon play. Most of the jokes that work concern New York paranoia. (Begins Friday at the Northgate.) Late Show "The Last Detail" Two sailors are taking a third to prison (Yorktowne). Music The UNC Department of Music will present Dawn Hannay in a recital of music for the viola at 8 p-m. Tuesday in the Auditorium of Hill Hall. The program will include works by Mozart, Brahms, Hindemith and Milhaud as well as a work composed by her father Roger Hannay, a composer in residence. Admission free. The paintings of Bob Blake are on display in the North Gallery of the Union. "Gods of the Night," a presentation by the Morehead Planetarium that explores the possibilities of life in Mars and mythological stories about other planets. Shows at 8 p.m. daily, 11, 1, 3 & 8 p.m. Saturday and 2, 3 and 8 p.m. Sunday. An exhibit of works by students in the UNC Art Department will be on display through mid-July in the Ackland Art Gallery. OlO "The Prisoner" A videotape episode from the now famous "The Prisoner" series. Patrick McGoohan stars as a man who tries to resign as an international secret agent and is imprisoned in a surrealistic village. His intense efforts are thwarted by the ingenuity of his captors. There will be afternoon showings only from May 22 to 28 in the Union's Music Gallery. Check daily schedule in the Union for times. TFtealre The North Carolina Dance Theatre will present a program including both modern and ballet works at 8:15 p.m. today in Duke's Page Auditorium. Tickets are all general admission, priced at $2 for adults and $1 for all students. The Summer Theatre at Duke will present a staged reading of Dylan Thomas' "Under The Milk Wood" at 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Duke's Branson Theater. Single tickets are $1.25 and may be purchased in advance at Page Box Office.
