2thtar hel Thursday, June 19, 1975 Board of Governors decides tenure action by Sherrill Braswell Staff Writer Procedures for laying off tenured faculty members because of financial emergencies or. program changes were adopted Friday by the UNC Board of Governors. The board's action laid out only the minimum standards for the 16 campuses in the UNC system, said Maceo A. Sloan, chairperson of the Committee on Personnel and Tenure which proposed the revision of the University Code. Tenured professors already could have been laid off in emergencies, but no consistent policy as to how it would be done has existed. Robert E. Phay, a special assistant on the UNC staff, said. Under the new regulations, if a chancellor were forced to lay off faculty members, he would have to consult his school's academic officers and then obtain approval from the president of the Consolidated University and the governing board. 5E Fabulous discounts on many new and demo components from most major manufacturers.
