f Laoarde C; n named to U.S. squad North Carolina's Tommy LaGarde has been selected to the 12 man Intercontinental Cup basketball squad which will represent the United States in Europe thb summer Cliff B. Fagan, President of the Amateur Basketball Association of America, announced Tuesday. The intercontinental competition, which serves as a preliminary for the 1976 Montreal Olympics, includes six games against four of the world's best national teams. The squad was selected by the ABA-USA Games Committee at the Pan-American trials in Salt Lake City, Utah, in early June. Other players named were Wayne Rollins from Clemson; Robert Parrish, Centenary; Leon Douglaus, Alabama; Mark Olberding, Minnesota; Norm Cook, Kansas Ernie Grunfeld, Tennessee; John Davis, Dayton; Bruce Parkinson, Purdue; Rudy White, Arizona State; Ron Lee, Oregon; and Joe Hassett, Providence. Tar Heel Coach Bill Lam announced the lineup and said, "It has been an unbelievable recruiting year for us. Heading the list of signees are Chris Conkwright and Mike Newbern, national champions from Virginia Beach, Va. Conkwright received more than 60 scholarship offers and it is believed he was the most highly recruited wrestler in the nation. Wrestling at the 134-pound weight, Conkwright won the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) championship and was a first team A 11-American. He was a three time state champion in Virginia. Newbern is a 150-pounder who was a national prep champion at Blair Academy in New Jersey. He was a member of the United States team which wrestled in competition against Russia. Other wrestlers who will be entering Carolina in the fall on scholarships are Dean Brior, 185-pounder from Havertown, Pa., who won his state championship and lost only one match in two years; Mike Benzel, 167-pounder STTTSDCSJCERnr TT' on campus s sin SBOGD from Norfolk, Va., who was a state champion at Norview High School and also competed against the Russian team; Dave J ergens, 145-pound state champion from Rochester, N.Y., who won 65 matches and lost three in his high school career, and Joe Ryan, 158 pounder from Catholic Central High in Detroit, Mich., a two-time runnerup in the state finals. UNC sophomore Ralph King has been selected to run in the Russian American Junior Track Meet at Lincoln, Neb., July 4-5. King, a native of Atlanta, Ga., will compete in the 5,000 meter run. He recently set a new junior record in that event with a time of 14:11.7 at Knoxville, Tenn. Tickets to Carolina's 1975 football games are on sale to the general public. Orders will be accepted solely through the mail. No over-the-counter sales are currently being made at Carmichael Auditorium, according to Mrs. Jean Keller, UNC Ticket Manager. Home games scheduled in Kenan Stadium next fall are versus William & Mary on September 6, Maryland on top rfr September 20, Notre Dame on October 1 1, East Carolina on October 25, Wake Forest November I and Clemson on November 8. Individual game tickets are marked S8. except for the Notre Dame game which will be $10 per ticket. Out-of-town games will also be $8 a ticket, except the Virginia game which will be marked $7 a ticket. Season tickets will range from S48 regular to $51 in sections with scatbacks.
