Freshman dies in Christopher Alvan, a UNC freshman from Greenville, N.C., died Sunday in an accident following a sport parachute jump. Alvan was jumping with the UNC Skydiver's Club at a site near Louisburg, N.C. Tony Cockrell, area safety officer for the U.S. Parachute Association, said Alvan's parachute was caught in a tree near the jumpsite, and he was suspended 15 feet above the ground. Cockrell said Alvan apparently tried to cut the belt -like riser lines that connected his harness to the caught parachute and was killed when one of the slack lines caught around the back of his helmet and snapped r It's Absolutely of the Moment!
