Oakland squad will
adorn the stage.
Lewis Labor ID ay Telethon has
all-star cast of performers slated
If you're.tired of the summer reruns and unsold
pilots which permeate TV during this time of"
year, tune in to Channel 28 at 9 p.m. Sunday for
the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. The show,
benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association,
will run non-stop until 6:30 p.m. Monday 21 2
hours.
This is the 13th Telethon, and each year the
pledges and the list of celebrities grows larger
Last year, almost $27 million was collected, and
Lewis predicts an even. bigger take this time.
As he has for the last five years, Ed McMahon
will be Lewis' anchorman, introducing Bets and
personalities and announcing up-to-date pledge
totals: The show will originate from the Sahara
Hotel in Las Vegas.
Among the celebrities scheduled to appear
from Las Vegas are Tony Bennett, Vikki Carr,
Ray Charles, Sammy Davis Jr., Lola Falana,
David Hartman, Richie Havens, Cheryl Ladd,
Peter Marshall, Robert Merrill, "Donald

O'Connor, Dolly Parton, Lou Rawls, Oral
Roberts, Doc Severnson, the Smothers
Brothers, Sally Struthers, Joey Travolta, Sarah
Vaughn and Dionne Warwicke.
Also appearing will be the Oakland Raiders
Cheerleaders. Last year? the Dallas Cowboy
cheerleader squad appeared.
Three times during the telecast at 12:30
a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 pirn. Monday The
network will switch to New York City for special
segments hosted by Virginia Capers, Julius
LaRosa and Laine Kazan. During these remotes,
cast members form Broadway musicals Annie,
Ain't Misbehavin', Dancin', Grease, On the
Twentieth Century, Timbuktu and The Wiz will
perform:
During each hour, local stations will break in
for their own segments with area personalities
