Macon County will hokf-a fair Sept. 11-17 in Franklin, and Cabarrus County wSl hold one from Sept 11-16 in Concord. For chicken lovers, the Rose Hill Poultry Jubilee in eastern - North Carolina will begin the last day of this month. Major activities include selection of a Poultry Queen and a chicken fry in the world's largest frying pan. For collard lovers, the town of Ayden will be cooking collards Sept. 7-10 for the annual Collard Festival. Last year's winner of the collard eating contest reportedly managed to eat six pounds of the vegetable in 30 minutes. For any local mules who don't like collards, the annual Benson Mule Day, Sept. 21-24, is a contest to select the' youngest, oldest and ugliest mule.
