3SIMI yearbook reflects '-year Mstory at UNC Ten years of activities of the Black Student Movement on the Carolina campus is the theme of the 1977-78 BSM yearbook. Ebony Images. Distribution of this edition commemorating the 10th anniversary of the , BSM here begins today in the Carolina Union. The book will be distributed from-9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in either the ground-floor lobby of the Carolina Union or at the BSM office, room 261, Suite B of the Union. Signs will be posted in the Union if the staff decides to operate out of the BSM office. Subscribers may pick up a book by presenting their student ID. Students who have not previously subscribed may purchase a yearbook for $4. "This yearbook is an abbreviated view of 10 years of the BSM, but we have tried to cover a little bit about everything " said Kay Powell, editor of Ebony Images. "We tried to show what the BSM has done since 1968," Powell said. She said the 41 -page book covers marches, speakers and other activities sponsored or co-sponsored by the BSM. Black sororities and fraternities, outstanding black athletes and subgroups evolving from the BSM. such as the Gospel Choir, Black Ink : and Ebony Images also will be included in the edition. Powell said. Distribution will continue for two weeks or until the yearbook sells out, Powell said. Books will be mailed to subscribers who have not picked up their books within two weeks, as many of these students graduated last year, she said. CAROLYN WORSLEY From page 1 building and the rezoning of the Baity property on Mason Farm Road as a possible site for an athletic complex have caused concern among neighborhood residents. Temple told the aldermen he did not think the University-A zones should be treated separately from other zoning rewrite changes, calling the board's move ill-conceived and ill-timed. He said restrictions on transition areas would inhibit the University's proposed expansion of UNC's art building, Swain Hall, the School of Public Health building, the Institute of Government building and the continuing education build'ng. On possible increased special-use requirements, Temple said the change would create a confrontation situation between the town and the University. Temple also said special-use permits cost the University by creating delayed construction costs. He cited $300,000 in additional costs because of delays with the N.C. Memorial Hospital parking deck as one example. Alderman Ed Vickery answered Temple's objections by saying, "In some situations, the University-A zone is a bit too unconstrained for the best interests of some citizens." Dr. Harvey Smith, UNC's director of social research, told the board he thought the expansion of the University is threatening the quality of life that brought many people.to UNC. "We ask that the integrity of our homeplace be preserved," Smith said. In other action, the board voted 5 to 3 -ball tickets tivfiiliibl today St ud2SEK1Slpkp'0c1cetsnoday' f o r -the Dec. 9 home ba&ketball garrle against Jacksonville. They will be distributed at 5 p.m. in Carmichael Auditorium. Tickets for the Dec. 16 game with Michigan State will be distributed at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Athletic pass and UNC ID arerequired. not to put a traffic signal in the middle of Franklin Street. The state Department of Transportation and the town's Streets and Public Safety Committee had recommended the signal to prevent traffic accidents. The aldermen said that the signal .would Trot be" in keeping withthe pedestrian-oriented character of downtown Chapel H ill.
