Rodgers was fired three weeks ago by the school's athletic association after six years at his alma mater. Curry, a 1965 graduate of Tech, was assistant coach at Tech under Rodgers in 1976 before joining the Green Bay Packers as offensive line coach. He was elected by a unanimous vote in a specially called session of the Tech Athletic Association, said Tech board chairman Joseph Pettit. From Staff Reports ATLANTA- Carolina's women's basketball team raced to an early lead and eased to a 93-61 rout of Georgia Tech in women's basketball action Wednesday night. The Tar Heels, who placed six players in double figures, raced to a 47-32 halftime advantage, at one time holding a 23 point first-half lead. Georgia Tech never threatened in the second half as UNC moved out and won, achieving its biggest margin at the final buzzer. Sophomore forward Meredith White was the top scorer for the Tar Heels with 19 points, as North Carolina placed 10 players in the scoring column. Freshman forward Anita Jones, making a return to her home state she prepped in Athens added 13 points for Carolina. Bernadette McGlade chipped in 12, while Henrietta Walls added 11, Kathy Crawford 10 and Joni Berry 10, for the Tar Heels. Carolina moved its record to 1 1-5 on the season with the victory, and the Tar Heels now stand 4-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference action. Georgia Tech dropped to 1-11 on the season. Personal . . .Professional Care at a reasonable cost By GEOFFREY MOCK Staff Writer The Tar Heel wrestling team's dual-match opener at 4 p.m. today in Carmichael Auditorium against East Carolina is expected to provide those waiting for N.C; State basketball tickets as much excitement as any basketball game. The sudden departure of team co captain Carter Mario may turn a certain UNC victory into one that UNC coach Bill Lam said might not be decided until the last match. ECU wrestled here earlier this season in the Carolina Invitational. The Pirates did not challenge UNC for the tourney title, but Lam said he was impressed with the Pirates. "They're tough. We beat them last year, but they have everybody back and three of our starters graduated, Lam said. "'We'll beat them early in the lightweights, but we'll have to get some major decisions and pins to build an advantage because w e'll lose most of the heavyweights. Right now it looks like each team will win five classes'." The loss of Mario will particularly hurt UNC since the Pirates boast an excellent wrestler, Ed Goode, at 167 pounds, Mario's weight class. "Carter would have beaten Goode," Lam said, "but now it will probably be a loss." Another important match will be at 150 pounds where Joe Galli will probable face the Pirate's Frank Schade. The two met in the finals of the Carolina Invitational with Galli winning 4-2. If the matches are split evenly the heavyweight class will decide the match. Jack Parry will make his debut against the Pirates' nationally ranked D.T. Joiner. Parry is a freshman linebacker on the football team and could not work out until after the Gator Bowl. He was a high school state champion in Pennsylvania last year, but Lam worries that facing Joiner in his first match in a pressure situation may be too much to ask. "Parry will be good, but I'd prefer he'd have some matches before Joiner to get some confidence," Lam said. With ECU's strength in the heavyweights, it will be up to Carolina's lightweights to pick up some of the slack, Lam said. Bob Monaghan, David Cooke and C.D. Mock should sweep the early classes, but Mario's absence will make them wrestle differently. "It affects their strategy," Lam said. "We'll just have to count on them to turn that seven-point victory into a eight-point win so we get that superior decision." AVAILABLE TO OTHER RETAIL DEALERS OR WHOLESALERS.
